I think this is the first time I've read a story of a permit holder murdering anyone. It is so rare for permit holders to break laws like this.

Police: Man Who Shot 2 at Tennessee Plant Had Gun Permit

By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS ATHENS, Tenn. — Sep 23, 2016, 5:36 PM ET

A man who fatally shot two supervisors and then killed himself at an electrical components plant in eastern Tennessee had a state-issued permit to carry handguns in public, law enforcement officials said Friday.

"There are no appearances at this point that this was anything that was planned," Niland said. "He did have a meeting with his supervisors, and it was during that meeting that he apparently experienced some agitation."

Under a state law enacted in 2013, workers with carry permits are allowed to store firearms in vehicles parked at work regardless of their employers' wishes. Thomas & Betts manager Pat Joyce said the company has an employee policy concerning firearms, but he declined to elaborate.

Most often a person that takes the time and investment to go through the hoops to get a permit is a more responsible individual. Human nature will show not every person is always perfect. I even know of one locally that I would question if I was in charge. But we are a free nation and it is not up to me to judge anothers motive.

The experience of Oregon prosecutor Joshua Marquis has been repeated nationwide on the subject of shall-issue concealed carry laws: "In 1991, I was the chief deputy district attorney in Deschutes County in Bend, and I authored an opinion piece run by The Oregonian, in which I was highly critical... I thought it would be a disaster. I was wrong. Based on my experience, crimes by CHL holders are very rare and are certainly less than in the general population. ... CHL holders have not been a public safety problem."

Other law enforcement professionals who initially opposed right-to-carry have publicy changed their minds based on practical experience. Opinion-editorialists and politicians stick with the 1911 Sullivan Act era rhetoric unphased by contact with reality.

Sooner or later there was going to be blood running in the streets with all these permits. The guy in Houston was an officer of the court.

I think you forgot to indicate sarcasm...At least I hope you did.

In one article, the press said the Houston shooter had a sub machine gun. Another a Tommy Gun. It was actually a semi-auto Thompson. Happened about 1.5 miles from my house.
