    Hey gents: ...?...

Is it fairly common for a retail seller (exc. feedback) on Gunbroker to describe a Police Trade-In .40 cal. Sig 229 as "I can't find any wear on it!" and he means it?

Were some LEO guns simply stored in a police or Sheriff's Station, in reserve, but seldom touched?

If the condition really is even Close to being very good/excellent--and I hope only for a response about how the rifling looks-- I'll just select the "Buy Now" price today at noon.

I've gotten several in that sort of condition.

    >> everyone is dumping the .40 to go back to the 9mm<<

Which is why I just picked up a seemingly unfired M&P .40 with "range kit" for a paltry $350.00. Included three mags., a holster, two mag carrier, and an Uplula. Can't beat that deal!

I haven't been following stuff; are we really headed towards something like this? I have a cache of both tucked away, but figured it was safe right now

    lsudave: maybe not.

But with so many violent varieties of psychos, socipaths and ISIS wannabes all over the US, let's remember that only one bad 'event' could spark public comments, inducing a panic.
I can imagine certain politicians: "..weapons of War were used in this tragedy, loaded with Russian Military ammo", or sanctions against Russia expand.

The idea is to buy a little bit fairly frequently and store much of it.
I retired last March. That was the other reason, barely noticed here. Too subtle.

A friend of mine, a retired local PD officer, thought a ".357 Sig" was a Sig that shot revolver type .357 rounds until I told him about what it was a couple of months ago. He picked up a P229 at a LGS and couldn't figure out how .357 cartridges went into the mag and how they could feed out of it. It really seemed to upset him that it was called a ".357". I don't get the anger about it. It's not a caliber I care about so I never look at any gun that shoots it.

This thread is making me want a police trade in Sig.

    Where's everyone getting theirs?

Browning: there are two in Cordova TN at Classic Arms
.Police "Trade-in" 229s being DAO/DAK Only (you might be familiar), my choice was to spot a used, commercial .40 P229 in .DA/SA at a second Cordova gun shop-yesterday.

Gunbroker has a decent selection: just search for Sig P229.

There are a few .40s in DA/SA for "Buy Now" from $520-$600. This was displayed last night. Apparently the .40 round--Very new to me (I was just a Makarov 9x18 guy)--is very gauche, unfashionable and uncool. It must be impractical and less effective.

Possible added benefit? During the next ammo panic, if 9mm dries up very quickly, the .40 ammo might dry up at a slower rate, as in the past.

I got one at AIM Surplus, two came from SOG, I think. I get them mixed up.

I don't know about P229s, but I picked up an Israeli police surplus West German-made 9mm P226 for a very good price off Gunbroker (directly from the importer) a few months ago. So there are surplus 9mm SIGs out there that are coming to the commercial market.

Fishbed77: Nice find and bid + timing. A 226 would be very cool, and there are 11 pages of them now, on GB. A few are chambered in .22.

Several of the 'CPO' Sig refurb. P229s, "DA/SA" in .40 cal. are Now listed on GB as "Buy Now" (in the blue box), from $380-$480.

With practice .40 S&W bulk ammo--let's be frank, Russian--at .20/rd., and you soon buy a Heap of it, I don't see the urgency for a first 229 to be in 9mm, unless a large pile of 9mm is already at home.

I've bought a few from this guy. http://summitgunbroker.com/p226-.html

He seems to get them frequently.

To the O.P. This isn't a police trade in or a .40 but I think it is a really good deal. I've been wanting a .40 P229 myself so I've been watching your thread. I was just browsing gun.deals & saw this https://www.gunsmidwest.com/798681412488.html

    Mike J: Thanks.
Two weeks ago I bought a used DA/SA 229 nearby in Cordova TN.

The reason I described those other guns, i.e. Gunbroker, was to help other people who don't mind the FFL waiting times etc. and can't find a local FTF option.
