SIG 1911 opinions wanted

scott... that's really interesting because I remember reading when the gun was first reviewed that the parts were all from big-name providers like Brown, etc. I wonder what's happened. Perhaps they've decided to cheap out.

I just saw a GSR Revolution on the Sig website which mentioned an all-around dehorning and premium grade parts (and no rail). I wonder how this differs from the earlier GSR.

As I mentioned before, Caspian, Wilson, EGW, Grieder, Performance Engineering, Wolff, Storm Lake, and Novak's were producing the parts that SIGArms assembled into complete pistols from day 1. To my knowledge nothing has changed. Every GSR I have handled has been the same. Excellent.
Nothing about the gun is at all inferior.

The only thing I have noticed different from parts sold separately, by the manufacturers for self installation, is that the parts on the GSR all have the same finish. If you bought the parts directly from the suppliers the finishes would not match nearly as well.

As I said I can find nothing inferior about the GSR and I'm a very picky bastard. Of course that's just my not so humble opinion. Your humble opinion may be different. But I really don't care. :neener:

If I was going to buy a 1911 pattern pistol that wasn't a Colt it would be the SIG.

BluesBear... I haven't fired a GSR yet myself, but given what I know about Colts and the other production-grade brands (Dan Wesson, S&W, Kimber, Springfield) I think I would have to agree with your statement. I had come to the point where I was fairly content with my 1911 collection, but the GSR looks tempting!

That's the first of the series without the rail. There have also been commander and officers sized models announced.

Several of the ranges in my area have them for rent. I've never had a problem from any of them no matter how dirty they were or what ammo I was using.

I've also fired a couple of others owned by friends and colleagues. All were top shelf. I'm not real keen on the external extractor but I could live with it.

I think a GSR with a good weapon light and a set of Crimson Trace grips would be nearly perfect as a bedside gun.

AND it comes in a color other than stainless. :D
