Polish Beryl Folder for AK.....anyone? what do ya'll think?

im thinking of putting a Polish beryl folding stock on my AK. anyone have experience replacing the fixed stock with this folder? any mods have to be done? and for those that own one.....how do you like it? and about how much do they go for. i saw a couple of nice ones on GB for $150.

I'm looking to get one as my next project to "Berylize" my Tantal. They are original issue from my understanding and solid stocks. Much better than a Tapco folder.

I put a Bulgarian Fixed stock on my wz.88 Tantal and like it a LOT better than the original short side folder.

Unless your stock is longer than a normal AK stock, it's the same length. The cheekweld is what makes the difference.

ive heard that you might need to shave a little off the back of the receiver for the spring to clear. thoughts?

By visual comparison it appears to have a lower cheek weld than a standard stock and the Russian/Bulgarian side folder. Is that so and how does it affect comfort and sight alignment?

it is lower. and there really is no cheek weld IMO. when slung, the sling acts as more of a cheek rest.

each folder has its ups and downs. the soviet folder on the bottom is really not meant to be folded unless transporting in confined space ect. the beryl folder up top is more of a tactical folder. it folds to the right so you can fold it slung and it has a very quick deployment because it does not require a button to extend. the one advantage the polish "wire" folder has over the beryl (and folders that fold to the left like the soviet) is that you can "work" the safety when folded.

so to answer you question, the bottom soviet folder is more of a "looks" thing where as the beryl folder is more user friendly.

If you have to unfold it and then flip the safety i don't see that as being a tactical advantage. And if I remember correctly the soviet style does not require a button to pushed but only a hard yank. I doubt that any of them are meant to be carried in the folded position though. The soviet folding stock was primarily issued to their paratroopers so I would bet the real reason is for jumping out of planes. It would probably also serve tank crews well but i think they all get a AKS74U, aka Krink.

the soviet style does require a button push for deployment. how do i know this? because as you can see, i have one. yes, there are some out there that only need a hard "yank" to unfold........however, they were not designed to do that and i dont see any advantage to doing that other than weakening the spring in your button-latch.

and i agree that it is not an advantage to not be able to work the safety on a folded beryl.........which is why i stated that the "wire folder" has an advantage over this one, in those regards. remember, this is an obsolete stock and is not "cutting edge" material..........but they are available and are nice. the word "tactical" is relative and subjective here.

I would love to put a Soviet triangle folder on my Tantal, too bad it requires working on the rear trunnion.

the soviet is not a "wire folder", but a triangle folder. the wire folder is what is on the tantal.
