Thinking about picking up an AK. It is a aide folder. What stock options do I have in regard to styles? Can I fit a fixed stock to it or am I stuck in the side folding config?

The underfolding stocks usually have an odd rear trunnion that won't allow stock changes without serious mods. Your sidefolder should accept most other stocks without any headaches. The Hungarian AMD sidefolders might be different from the others, I'm not sure about those. Exactly which AK variant do you have ? Is you folding stock metal or plastic? Can you post any pics of the stock & folding mechanism?

I would think you could grind off the rivets remove the sidefoldng trunnion and go with a standard unit

There are two basic types of side folder, 3 if you include the AMD.

The German, Polish and Egyptian style use the same rear trunnion as the fixed stock. Change to a fixed stock with those is simple: pull the screw, pull the stock, install new stock of your choice.

The AK-100 type side folder uses a different rear trunnion. To swap that one out you'd have to grind off rivets and replace the rear trunnion.

Its a WASR I'm considering. The seller mention the stock will not hold open correctly...so I'm contemplating fix it up deal.

If its a WASR with a romi side folder you could either fix it or buy a new side folder for like $70. You could also upgrade to a beryl, bonesteel or ace.
