The Tantal is 30.23 inches long with the stock folded, and can still fire.

State law says that any rifle with a folding/telescoping stock and is 30 inches or less in length (with the stock folded) is considered a pistol.

Since this rifle is a little bit over 30 inches, is it considered a rifle? or still a pistol? And what could I do (besides pinning the stock open :barf:) to lengthen one and make it legal?

.
That must be an interestingly written law.

Sorry. perhaps I should have said any FIREARM.

With the muzzle break, I'm not sure if its perminantly attached, if it isnt, I will solder it on.

How is it illegal right now?

in michigan you have to be 21 and get a pistol permit in order to purchase a pistol. firearms with folding or telescoping stocks that aren't over 30 inches long with the stock folded/collapsed are considered pistols by state law.

im not 21 so I was asking if since this rifle is technically over 30 inches long with the stock folded if it would be considered a rifle or pistol in michigan.

in michigan you have to be 21 ... in order to purchase a pistol.

Are you sure?

To purchase a handgun from either a dealer or private individual, the buyer must obtain a license to purchase from the chief of police if the buyer lives in a city, or the county sheriff if he lives in an area without an organized police department. The buyer must be 18 years of age, a U.S. citizen, a resident of Michigan, have no felony conviction, have never been adjudged insane (unless later restored by court order), and score 70% on a basic pistol safety review questionnaire.

It's 30.23" folded right? That is over the 30" requirement which means it is a rifle not a pistol whether the stock is folded or not.

The LOA is greater than 30" so it is legal. End of problem...

You are however, by federal law, prevented from buying a handgun from a FFL, so although you can apparently purchase a pistol there, it must be from a private seller.
