Just pick out the brands that you like or the very best brand and see how much you get.
Part of the preference is what acceptable brand can you get the most of in the best condition. Brass condition and having a common brand to match existing brass and future lots of brass is important.

You could save the Lapua and there might only be 13 cases.
I would save Hornady but there might not be very many.
Some of the other brands might not be as desirable but you might be able to pick out your full allotment of Remington or Winchester cases and pick all perfect cases in the process.

I prefer the RP and FC myself. The Winchester brass I have been getting lately isn't very good quality.
I am finding RP and Federal quite consistent when sorted for weight. Hornady is good, too, and so is Nosler. Not as good as Lapua or Norma, but then I'm too cheap to pony up what it takes to buy that stuff.

It's just me, but I try to stay away from the military brass as loads can get quite hot before reaching maximum loads due to the thicker brass.

USGI MilSurp

Preferably LC, WCC, WRA or RA. (avoid "U" and "TW.")

cheygriz,

I'm somewhat surprised that you don't like Twin Cities brass. The gov't thought so highly of it in the early fifties when they weren't making Match brass, that they issued that ammo to competitors at the National Matches at Camp Perry.

Cant go wrong with 100 pieces of Lapua brass for most any centerfire rifle reloads. Once you do, it's hard to go back to others.

Concur, I've used winchester brass in a variety of chamberings and thought it was a good deal, but the last pack of 270 brass I bought was awful, I actually think I'm going to toss the whole bag and move to Hornady.

I voted for Black Hills. I don't know how much of it you get but it's top of the food chain. So if I had BHA to choose from it's a no brainer.
Winchester is good for both and the HXP milsurp ammo is pretty good.

HXP for the 30-06 and any LC for second choice as well as LC for the 308/7.62X51. This for cost per shot at an acceptable return. Norma or Lapua, I see no improvement with regards to my shooting accuracy worth going to that brass. YMMV

NO I have not tried any of it yet. I have tried almost everything I can get my hands on and it all loads OK for minimally accurate short range target ammo. The MIL SPEC brass all generally seems to last longer before it craps out. I do FL size for auto loaders mostly though so not such long case life as it is.

I chose the military brass. Why? Because I get it for free and load and or form from 30-06 down to 243 Win with it.

I want to thank all you guys for your input. It was no surprise to me that military brass and Winchester commercial brass was so popular. What did surprise me was the strong showing for Remington and Hornady brass. I will be concentrating on these brands for those of you who indicated that they would be interested in buying some of this brass. Oh, and for those of you who indicated they like Lapua (me too), I only wish more guys would shoot this and leave their brass at the range. Hey, a guy can dream! ;)
