What are the polymer single stack pistol choices in 45acp ? I know there's the Glock 36 . It seems it's reliability is "hit and miss" . Owners have good and bad luck with them.
There's the Springfield Armory XDS45 . I like it but not the grip-safety.
There's the S&W Shield in 45acp . I had one but I am not sure what the heck was going on with it. The barrel would barely fit in and out of the slide when disassembling it . I think the tolerences were out of specification. And the grip texture would eat up my skin on my hips.
Are there any other single stacks out there in polymer for the 45acp ?

Have you considered the smith & wesson m&p subcompact 45acp ? Comes with 8 round magazines but , will accept the 10 round magazines from full size m&p 45 . Its a little larger than the shield but not by much . Barrel length 4 inch

Didn't someone make a polymer framed commander length 1911? I think it was a Witness if I'm not mistaken.

Are you specifically looking for polymer? Or striker-fired? That leaves out a lot of good options, like the Sig P220. DA/SA or DAK trigger, 8+1 magazine with a 10+1 available, railed versions.

Just something to consider...

Hi-Point JHP ("Jumbo Hi-Point"?) :D

I have one of the Kahrs, a CW45. Bought it used, but it is not at all reliable. To be fair, I don't know its history (was it ever broken in?) and have only tried it with one brand of ammunition so far.

I've heard of reliability issues with the 36 in the early days of its manufacture. I haven't heard much bad lately, but then I don't get out much. :p

I've only had one jam that I can remember with my 36 and that was due to me relaxing too much to the point of limp wristing a shot. I've had more jams while firing 3" barreled 1911s than my 36.

I'm a big fan of the Kahr 9mm's.... no so much the .45's. I have had a full-boat P45, just a fantastic gun... when it fired. I think it had a short chamber in it, and Kahr CS wasn't that responsive to my request for service, so I traded it off (for another Kahr CW9...) I now have a CW45 I traded into... again, a decent enough pistol, just not 100% reliable. It's a range pistol for me... that's all.

It really is a shame... the size and weight of the Kahr 45 should be a winner, but I continue to believe the Kahr 9's are the absolute sweet spot in their lineup.

If you're open to a compact double stack 10 round magazine Taurus use to make several polymer frame pistols in .45 ACP. There were the PT145 MilPro, PT 745 MilPro, PT 845, PT 24/7, and G2 models. A friend of mine has a PT145 that's still his EDC after all these years.

There's also the Ruger American Pistol which comes in both a Full size (Duty 10+1), or a Compact size (7+1/10+1), version that use double stack magazines but are not all that wide (1.4" at it's widest point without a safety).

I feel compelled to ask ... what is your issue with the grip safety on the XDS45? Concern about not being able to add a "grip accessory"?

I bought a 3.3" XDs45 in Aug'13 and a Mod2 of the same form-factor pistol 6 years later (the Mod2 is my current carry piece). Other than having to send the 1st one back to the mothership for recall "upgrade" right after purchase, I have never experienced any problem with either pistol.

I have never been a fan of the pineapple-grenade grip-treatment on the original, but a bicycle innertube sleeve fixed that for me. :)

Just wondering.

Go with the original, HK P9S. Going to be pricey though to find one in good condition. Extra mags will be tough. It is one elegant polymer pistol, too bad it was discontinued.

Single stack polymer pistols I don't think to be very common.
I'd buy a Walther PPQ .45 and call it a day.

I'd have to at least look at this one. Yea, it's a double stack, but is pretty compact with 8+1 capacity. Plus the ability to use 10 and 14 round extended magazines.

Mine with 10 round magazines and mounted light.

Shield 45 is the winner in this category, easily. You just have to find a holster with a sweat guard, wear and undershirt, or otherwise avoid it rubbing your skin.
