Does anyone know how much FA charges to take a Poly M-14 and put in a USGI bolt and any other parts needed to make it a safe, reliable weapon? I emailed last wek and asked, but haven't had a response. I have a chance to get one of these rifles for a pretty decent price, but need to know if the additional expense is going to squash the deal.

It is very possible that a new bolt is not required. If your headspacing is fine there is no need to change the bolt (unless you just want gi parts).

Don't believe everything you read at Foulton. I'd suggest doing a search for Polytech's at www.battlerifles.com for a wealth of info.

How is putting USGI parts into a flawed receiver (which if I remember was supposedly the problem with PT M-14's) going to fix anything?

Sounds kinda silly, unless I'm missing something.

FWIW, I had a Polytech M14 and didn't know any better and went and shot 3,000 or so rounds out of it. Good thing I didn't know they were so dangerous, or I wouldn't have enjoyed that rifle so much.

The Polytech receiver is actually very good... it's forged and made to correct specs. The bolts suck, and this particular rifle is known to take the guge and let it rattle around... :) It *needs* work.

I have never shot a Poly or examined one in depth, but from what I have read up on them, they are actually supposed to be quite good.

I second the idea that you go to battlerifles.com and read up on it. I used to have an M14, but to be honest, those guys over there know waaaaaaay more than I do, and anything I could tell you would just be quoting them anyway. FANTASTIC knowledge base there.
