hi there, another polytech question.
i posted a question here earlyer about what mil-spec parts were interchangable with the polytech, i was told that the castle nut and the gas block were not. im assuming because of metric threads.

my is drilled and tapped for the single screw scope mount on left side of the reciver. will a standard mount fit or do i need some metric thing?

Polytech in "West by God virginia"

Yur from West Virginie an ya own one of them thar foreign rifles?

Tarnation, boy what r ya thinkin?

Just kidding, I am originally from W.Va., by the way, so I can poke a little fun at us. :D

Interesting question, though as I too just purchased a Polytech M1 and would like to add short-range optics (i.e. red dot). Does anyone know of a good L.E.R. mount for the Polytech?

Spoon

P.s. I moved from W.Va. to Alabama is that a step up or down?

Easy on the slurs there spoon. I dont want my thread shut down.

anyways, im really satisfied with my Polytech. from a benchrest I can nail clay birds almost every time at 200m with chinese surplus. so it shoot really well and im curious what it would do with a scope. it uses the standard 1 screw mount, but i think the hole in the reciver is metric. 12-28 or so the local gun guy told me when he inspected it and did some testing with some taps he had on hand.

wonder if i could re-thread it to sae to accept the commercial mount screw?

Power to the Polytech owners! :D

yup it will screw in just fine.

Ive got a smith mount on mine right now, or at least it was on there before I started installing a USGI bolt.

I've been thinking of doing the same with my Polytech 14...where would I get the mount? Would it have to be removed for field stripping the gun?

I'd be concerned about any single screw mount like the Leapers. Seems like the mount would have plenty of opportunity to swivel around that screw given variations in dimensions of receivers and mourn.

I have a SA mount that has two ENORMOUS screws...one into the receiver and one into a replacement for the clip guide. In addition, there are a couple of indexing cuts in it. Rock solid.

In M14 mounts you want to get a good quality one the first time.

I suggest, spending the money and getting a smith enterprise, sadlak, arms #18 or brookfield precison.

The springfield mounts while they do work are made from aluminum and can deform/shift over time.

You can easily strip the rifle with the mount inplace. Once installed it never needs to be removed.

M1a receivers vary in their dimensions so the best bet out of the ones I mentioned is the smith since it has the narrowest slots to allow for the most variability.

Sadlak sells a kit that is free if you actually buy their mount that will allow you to test if your receiver is in spec to fit their mount. If not you can send the rifle to them and they will sit the mount to the receiver.

I'd recommend the ARMS #18

I did a lot of research on the best mount for the M14s Polytech and can tell you that the ARMS 18 mount is a rock solid platform for any kind of optics.

It was pointed out to me that you can spend $1k for a fine piece of optics but if you put it on a poor mount, you've wasted your money. Put on a great mount, and even an inexpensive scope will perform just fine in most cases.

So, spend the bucks on a good mount and hang on whatever optics your heart desires. BTW, I also purchased the ARMS 22 lever rings and they are rock solid, re-zero every single time.

The ARMS mount is a 3 point mount, btw. Here's what it looks like on my poly:

A good friend of mine who is in the know about guns told me that i would have to be careful selecting a scope for my m-14. he said that he was told by a gunsmith that the harmonics of an m-14 would shake the reticle loose.

he said that an air gun would do the same thing to a regular scope. something about the harmonics.

I figured if a simmons .44 mag would stand up the the abuse it gets from my Sendero in 300 winchester mag it would take anything.

anyone ever hear this before?
