I'm sure that the porting cuts down on felt recoil, but I'm wondering whether the gun's report appears to be a good bit louder due to the porting? Thanks!

I once had the misfortune of having a student show up to an Arizona CWP course with a ported 2" Rossi .357 Magnum revolver (which he had purchased because his first CWP instructor had used one). I failed to convince him to shoot the course with .38's. Even after I convinced him to use a box of my milder 110 gr. Magnums instead of his own hotter 125 gr. loads, he still had a serious problem with anticipation and I paid the price for the greater noise levels to the rear and sides when I had to coach him with "assisted-trigger" drills. And yes, it will be louder. Also very bad on a self defense weapon if you have to fire close to your body (e.g. "from the hip") since the exhaust gasses will be coming straight at your face.
