I'll be in Portland this saturday and was wondering if there were any indoor pistol ranges other than "The place to shoot." That place looks darn expensive!

I don't need to rent any guns, I just need to kill time waiting for my wife. Any suggestions?

Best bet would be to find a THR member who is local and a member of Johnson creek gun range. Indoor, but you have to go with a member.

There is also the English Pit up in Vancouver. You will have to buy a $7 annual membership plus $3 per entry. It is an outdoor range, but shooting positions are covered so you can stay dry. Probably your cheapest option unless you can bum an invite from Johnson Creek.

a $7 membership? wow.

That's pretty sweet.

I looked at the PSTC range, but that's also $15 and you have to use their ammo...

My whole point was buying ammo from sportsman's warehouse and testing it out to see which had the lowest recoil but it seems that may be out of the question.

What's the cheapest place in town to buy ammo? I like no-tax.. it's like a 9% discount for me.

Cheapest ammo depends on who is having a good sale. Sportsman's warehouse sometimes has some good deals. I would go to GI Joes and/or Fishermans (there are right next to each other visible on the east side of I-5). Take the Hayden Meadows exit, The 2 shops are located across the highway from the Expo center.

Yes they have target stands. You can provice your own targets or buy them for 25 cents a pop.

English Pit Rifle and Pistol Range, 912 NE 192nd Ave, Vancouver, WA 98684. Telephone 360-892-7119

I think he is only open on the weekends this time of year, call the number and listen to the recording. I haven't lived in the area for 6 months, so you should get updated info about rates and hours.

Best prices are usually at bi-mart, sometimes gijoes runs a good sale, and sometimes sportsmans warehouse as well. I usually buy in bulk at gun shows from a store based out of salem, last time I payed 90 bucks for 1000 rounds of .40.

Just saw this post today, would have gone with you yesterday to JCGC.

Ive gone through probably about 650-700 rounds of the case so far with my HK 40c. It burns alot cleaner than most of the cheapo factory stuff, id say 200-300 rounds puts less crap in my gun than 50 rounds of UMC or 100 rounds of winchester white box (just my humble opinion, not stating fact). Ive had no bad primers and no FTE or FTF's. Good stuff for the price in my opinion.
