Posers? poor rookies?

I sometimes surprise myself when digging around in the back of the gun safe. (When did I buy this?.)

To some people, guns are tools. They don't have the infatuation that some of us have with them.

My suggestion is that you be less condescending, and more helpful.

And how did you feel about people with your attitude when you first started to learn about guns?Did you begin as a "WRONG ANSWER JACKASS",or someone that wanted to know more?As mentioned above, imitation is a very sincere form of flattery, hope you didn't turn them off with your own condescending attitude, which, like it or not, probably shows to them almost as much as it does to those of us reading your post...

what difference does it make as long as they are not acting in an unsafe or criminal way with their firearms.

point them in the direction of a local safety class. don't try to educate them yourself. your attitude will get in the way.

As long as people are safe with their fire arms, I don't care why they bought them or in what manner they shoot them. If they can't hit the paper from 7 yards and have no desire to become any better, that's OK with me. If they just go to the range because they like the loud noise every time they pull the trigger, that's fine too.

I know absolutely nothing about motorcycles. I could name a few brands but zero models. Without knowing it, I probably have some misconceptions about them from seeing them in movies and on TV. But I'm getting ready to take a basic class so I can at least figure out how to make the things go forward. In the eyes (and ears) of the professional teaching the course, I'm sure that I will ask some question that is completely ridiculous. I'd like to think that instead of them thinking I am a jackass that they will see me for what I am, a beginner.

In any new sport/hobby/undertaking, you have to start somewhere. Buying a gun and putting 1,000 rounds downrange the first day is a heck of a start. If you aren't willing to mentor these people (and there is no need for you to undertake this task) perhaps you could look up a basic pistol course or NRA safety course in the area and pass along the info to these new shooters.
