I have a Sig556 rifle, and when I was looking to put optics on it I have considered using a POSP 6x42 scope on it. http://www.kalinkaoptics.com/detail.aspx?ID=568

I have one on my Arsenal rifle, and it is awesome, but was wondering about putting one on a 5.56 rifle. I know some of the pros and cons to expect, namely the weight of such a scope but it seems like a great deal and a great optic.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I put a relatively inexpensive Leupold on my Sig556 and had a heck of a time getting the thing sighted in. The rail on top of the receiver was a bit canted so it shot very low, used up all the elevation just trying to get it on target. Ended up having to add a couple shims (aluminum cigar tube) in the rings to get worked out. It doesn't look like it would be possible to shim the POSP scope so if you have a canted sight rail (I have heard of others with the same problem) and don't have enough elevation adjustment then you would pretty much be out of luck. I would suggest pulling the scope off the Arsenal rifle and giving it a try on the Sig, it would be a lot less to give it a try before you buy another one.

A good idea, but it is not possible to put the scope on the Arsenal on the Sig 556. The Sig, as you know, has a rail, but the Arsenal is a AK-47 style rifle, it uses the other type of attachment, some side attachment thing used in SVD/SKS and AK-47 style rifles so its a little different. A friend of mine actually purchased on for a Bushmaster AR15, it zeroed and seemed like a good scope but I'm just a bit skeptical of a Russian made scope for $150 dollars.

As a general rule, I pass on other scopes because they are made in China and I refuse to purchase goods when possible due to social/personnel beliefs.

The scope he listed uses a Weaver mount, not the AK side mount. So it will fit fine. Those Russian scopes are very good for the money. They hold zero just fine on 7.62x54r rifles that give them far more punishment than a 5.56 rifle.

I've heard those scopes are calibrated for 7.62x54 or 7.62x39, would this affect usage with a 5.56?

I've been using the 2.5-5x25mm on my STG58 for a while and love it. It works well and I'm sure will do very well for you.

I can't comment on your particular application, but i've had a 4x POSP on a Saiga for a while, and i love this thing !! I'd say jump on it.

The value presented by that scope is phenomenal. The fitment shouldn't present a problem. The BDC will not be terribly useful at ranges over 200 yards, but with a 200 yard zero, you should have MPBR of about 335, according to the ballistics tables on the computer.
