My dad posted a no carry sign on his front door to get under my skin. I got out a tape and explained that his sign was not large enough to be legal. Glad you got things worked out.

Kimber, that's a great attitude.... For a thug.

A code of ethics is what built our country and made it great. It's what separates us from many other nations, where women can scarcely walk outside without fear of rape or assault.

If we say to hell with right and wrong, just worry about what we can get away with, I have some neighbors that annoy me, and in this neighborhood, I could probably get away with slitting their throats. I'd get a nice PA system out of it too. As long as I can get away with it, right?
That comment is long on hostility towards me and short on logic. Calling me a thug actually violates this forums rules. Would you care to do the right thing and remove it?

FACT: the term "ethics" has no real meaning. It is extremely fluid.

FACT: the term "ethics" is not synonymous with "right and wrong." In fact, colleges prefer the term ethics so they DON'T have to discuss right and wrong. I never, EVER said "to hell with right and wrong" and you know it. I don't appreciate having words jammed into my mouth.

Saying that "a code of ethics built our country and made it great" is strange since I've never read any founder use the term "ethical."

Not sure where you live but to own a handgun and get a CCW you have to be over 21.

FACT: When a person asks a question of ethics, they are asking if something is right or wrong.

1. (used with a singular or plural verb) a system of moral principles: the ethics of a culture.
2. the rules of conduct recognized in respect to a particular class of human actions or a particular group, culture, etc.: medical ethics; Christian ethics.
3. moral principles, as of an individual: His ethics forbade betrayal of a confidence.
4. (usually used with a singular verb) that branch of philosophy dealing with values relating to human conduct, with respect to the rightness and wrongness of certain actions and to the goodness and badness of the motives and ends of such actions.

Colleges may use some definition that allows them wiggle room for double speak. That is par for the course in most colleges.

This is the High Road. Not the Thug Life Road. He's asking a simple question of right or wrong, is it right to do this, or is it wrong. Is it ethical, or unethical. In common parlance, this is the same question, and double speak doesn't get you around this.

Clearly, however, he was not asking if he could get away with it. He doesn't need our advice to answer the question of whether he can outsmart his dad in this regard or not. You know full well what he was asking, and declaring that the only relevant question is whether or not he can get away with it is a poor attitude to take.

ChaoSS dude, calm down. This is the internet. The hostility and name calling you are seething with is rather "thuggish" (to quote your favorite name calling term) so relax. If you want to believe that "ethics" is somehow fully synonymous with right and wrong, then go right ahead.
