I have a 1984ish Winchester M94 in .30-30 that was given to me a few years ago. Its a carbine with what I think is a "saddle ring". Its in very good condition, works properly, etc.

I would like to determine a price value for it, and was having some trouble doing so, as there are so many different models/variations in the Blue Book.

It doesn't have any specific discerning letters or numbers, just winchester model 94 and a serial number in the 4.8 million range, which I think is about 1984.

Any help pricing this rifle and some more information would be much appreciated!

I've included some pictures of the gun below.

Thanks.

model 94

what you have there is pre- angle eject model 94. In my mind the last of the variations of the 94 that I find desireable. in 1990 I bought a new angle eject model 94, rebounding hammer, no half cock hammer position. I also have a trapper model, pre angle eject similar to yours, 16" barrell with saddle ring, but has a carbine style butt. Actually , mine is a commerative model, but is my favorite shooter as far as the model 94 is concerned. I just feel the top eject, with the two position hammer is more like an original. Of course the purists will say that if not a pre 64 model, is a piece of junk. Not so! You have a pretty nice rifle there. Around here if the bore is perfect it would fetch 300 or so, depending on buyer. Id hang on to it and shoot it! Good Hunting.

Model 94's just don't command a high price. I have one that I paid $299 for from 1966, an old LE gun. I almost sold it once but realized it wasn't worth selling.

joed,

Just thought you might like to know that the new LE price from P&S Sales on department letterhead was a whopping $72.00 in 1966.

Not trying to be mean or anything, just thought you might find it interesting.

Thanks for the info kBob, that sounds about right for that time period. I picked this rifle up at a gun shop locally back when it was announced Winchester would be closing the factory. The gunsmith had worked for a company that sold all the police departments around the area their equipment. He told me several 94's came as trade ins for M16's after the mounted unit was disbanded.

I bought it because I didn't know if Winchester would ever make them again and I thought it was a nice historic piece.

The rifle has a metal butt plate instead of plastic and has the letters CHP engraved in the sideplate. I know it's not worth a lot but I still keep it.
