The king of outdoors guns. There are some more powerful options but you got to carry them, size & weight matter. 6 shots of 360 wlnfpgc over a full case of h110 makes a statement on both ends. I've had my share of handguns but this guy gets the nod for outdoors work. Do I need that much power (in the Midwest)?-- no. But it's nice to have all the handgun I will ever need. If more range or velocity is required a rifle is in order.

Hunting is meaningless without being able to hit and kill game. My Dan Wesson M45 spent years as my big bore silhouette revolver where it was deadly out to 220 yards with its 300 LFN at 1080 fps. Now it is my primary hunting revolver for deer-sized game, launching the Hornady 250 XTP at 1200 fps. The scope allows my aging eyes a perfect sight picture and it has killed Kodiak blacktails out to 100 yards, although most were under 50 yards.

My general "Woods Carry/Hunting Sidearm" for eastern NC is my 4.75 Cimarron in .357mag. During warmer weather the first round is generally snake shot(lots of Copperheads in the area)

Sometimes I carry my 4" 625, and if actually handgun hunting I carry a 8 3/8" 29-3
