The "Post your target" challenges continue...
1) Post your targets - The 15 yard pistol challenge
2) Post Your Targets 2 - The Weak Hand Pistol Challenge.
3) Post Your Targets 3 - Long walk short pier challenge.

And now welcome to challenge #4
The previous challenges have been about grouping, distance, and pushing the limits of small barreled guns. This challenge is about selecting your target.

For this challenge we have a NEW TARGET. Download the "Six Can" target from this location (Warning, PDF file).

1) Post the target at 30ft (10 yards).
2) Using any pistol and any method (unsupported, two hand, weak hand, whatever) try to shoot each can ONCE.

Six shots, try to shoot each can only once.

As always, when you post don't forget to give us some details on your shooting (gun used, stance used, etc).

BONUS POINTS:
Bonus points will be awarded to anyone taking the "Six Can" challenge at 50ft not just 30ft. Make sure you write "Bonus attempt" on the target.

This challenge may be shot at any speed you choose.

There it is. Have fun!

Ze

How dissappointing... I went 3/6 and 4/6 today.

The 3/6 was with a HK USPc .40 at 10 yards with an isoceles stance.

The 4/6 was with a Kimber Custom .45 at the same distance and stance.

I really thought I would go 6/6 with my Kimber.

How dissappointing... I went 3/6 and 4/6 today.

I PM'd a few guys before I posted this one and a couple of them said "nah, that's too close/easy" but the rest said "let it stand and see how people do". Thus the "bonus" was born.

Don't feel too badly, I've actually had very few 6/6 with this target and on a bad day it's 2 or 3 out of 6. It's a pretty good reality check IMO because a lot of us get good at repeating the same motion to make a nice tight group but haven't had much practice at precision shooting that involves just small changes for a target like this one.

My experience with postal matches is that when the targets are nice round bulls eyes, everybody shoots nice tight groups. When the targets contain "distractors" or are significantly asymmetrical, everybody's groups go away, and scores drop precipitously. This causes people to give up thinking their scores are no good, when in fact, they're fine.
A great example of this is the "golf" match at
http://tinyurl.com/ytqhb6
scroll down about 2/3 of the page to see it. A perfect score would be 5. The winning score in centerfire was 33.
Apparently I scored my target with the .357 wrong, thinking we should simply shoot until all the cans were hit, then count the holes, so the 7/6 score should be interpreted as 5/6, which I would have had if I'd stopped at 6 shots.

will this do

I figured I'd post this till I get to the range with your target. It was shot at 7 yards with a ruger MKII.

Now you've done it, Billll.

I just saved a copy of the golf target for future use. I will redeem myself.... someday, somehow, after many thousands of rounds of practice.

The other notably nasty one they did was "Cricket". The target was a standard dartboard with the double and triple rings for each number. You need 3 hits each in 16 through 20, and 3 bulls eyes, remembering that the "X-ring" counts for 2. Hit the arc-shaped slivers and do well. Each sliver is at a different orientation. Quite frustrating.

I've got three of these Polish P64 pistols. I haven't shot them in quite a while. This target seemed like just the thing for the P64.:)

M2 Carbine.
You always post such nice targets on my challenges. I may have to create a special "M2 Carbine" challenge in the future <grin>.

p.s. can you visit me and teach me to shoot better :D

Thanks.

p.s. can you visit me and teach me to shoot better
I'd be glad to help if I could, but it's unlikely I'll ever be leaving Texas again.:)

BTW I was born and raised near you, Baltimore.
In 1955, age 17, I was in the USMCR at the Anacostia Naval Air Station, that's probably not far from you.
I left the East coast for good in 1966. Flight Instructor at the Army Helicopter School at Mineral Wells, TX.

first is my 442 at 10 yards,5 of 6. second is amt 45 backup at 7 yards, 4 of 6,guess that's not bad for no sights and 20 pound trigger.

Well, I've jumped into the fray. Please don't laugh though.:D Super Blackhawk .44 at 25 yards hands supported off a range bag. Reloads with 6.0 grains of Trail Boss and a 240 swc Lazercast. Pretty much aimed for center mass. :)
Yeah, I could use some practice!
On edit, that is regular sized printer paper, not a blueprint! This is fun. Count me in on the next ones.

I use the Ayoob strong stance and grip for two-hand shooting. I thnk it provides better control than the traditional Weaver combat stance.

When you have a "good" night....

sometimes when you have a good night it's a VERY good night!
