Who loads 9mm and 40 with Hodgdon HS6 or CFE Pistol? I have a chance to buy some of these powders but have never used them before and I am getting low on my powder I use for my 9mm and 40 loads and can't find any. So any experience with these powders in the calibers mentioned I would appreciate. Thanks

I just did my first 9mm loads with CFE Pistol. I used Hodgdon's lead data for the starting load with Berry's 115 gr round nose and they worked very well. The starting load cycled the gun, and workup went fine. Good stuff.

Looking to try Longshot next with some Nosler 115 gr Sporting Handgun hollow points.

I haven't used CFE Pistol in the 40 SW yet, but plan to in the near future.

I tried some Berry's 165 grain in 40 with 7.1 grains of CFE Pistol. Starting load is 6.9 grains. These were SNAPPY. Hodgdon's data is warm even on the start load.

I backed it down to 6.5 grains and we'll see how that goes, should shoot a little softer.

I've got some 9mm loaded up as well. 5.0 and 5.2 grains under a 124 gain Berry's RN, will be testing those on Saturday, along with the new 40 loads.

I've loaded a lot of .40-level 10mm with HS-6. Meters well, but you cannot drop the charge weight too low without getting bigger spreads on velocity. Good stuff, though.

Economically, CFE Pistol requires less grains than HS-6.

So HS-6 will fill the casing more than CFE Pistol. Less chance of double charge.

CFE Pistol may be more versatile than HS-6. But that is only if you were to load for 380's.

I like both, but with a choice of both, I prefer CFE Pistol more.

CFE Pistol works great in 9mm. It also works well in 45ACP. I found in 9mm, the max charge was most accurate and in 45, the minimum charge is best. I have also experimented with 38special and am finding it works well in that large case also, but again, I like the lower charge weights there also.

HS-6......

You will find that you will like HS-6 a LOT...

Works well in most any Semi-auto 9MM and above..

Works well in most Revolvers .38Spl. and above..:D

5.0 grains of CFE pistol behind a 124 grain Berrys PRN with a 1.160 oal goes 1052 fps out of a PX4 and shoots very well. I find CFE to be a little snappier than win231.
