Powder Valley has Tula Small Pistol Primers

Midway sent me an email that CCI SP primers were in........not an hour later though.

It's getting better, but we are not there quite yet. I picked up some Tula LR primers when they had them not long ago.

Thanks for the heads up, I know folks appreciate it.

I just cant believe that they've kept spp in stock for 5 days now. I came out of this shortage just as I had planned? I ordered 10k primers and 5lb powder dec25 2012 and that has kept up with replacing rounds I shoot as well as adding an extra 100-150 rounds to the stash via brass found at range each week. Last month I picked up 4 pounds of powder at normal($16/lb) prices locally, and the PV order I placed last Thursday came in at the perfect time as I was down to my last 1000 lpp and last 200 spp. Pv had no lpp so I just ordered 7k spp and 3k srp so I can swap 4k of them for lpp locally.

Im glad that when I started reloading 18 months ago, I had enough book learnings in my brain to always have on hand atleast 6 months worth of loaded ammo and 6 months worth of components. Now I just need to send in my lee mold to be repaired/replaced so I can load up these 2k pieces of primed and sized 38 cases ive been sitting on.

Ordered a brick 7/25 Thursday, invoiced 7/28 Sunday, UPS says they will be delivered tomorrow, 7/31 Wednesday.

To each their own but I won't buy another TULA primer unless that's all that were around. I has 3 ftf with last 2 brcks and they seat too hard. My primer pockets expanded a bit after firing too.

Question about pricing. 10x23.5= 235
~$15 shipping
~$27.50 hazmat

$277.50 or so total. Is that normal pre-panic price? Did local stores stock TULA primers? I'm not in _huge_ need, have 2k left but don't know if that's a good deal..

Yes, they seat hard, but they are available.

In Aug 2012, when I bought primers, Tulas were $19.60/k
CCI 500s were $35/k

That's a savings of $15.40/k, I ordered 10,000.
& saved $154. To me that's just too much money.

This year the Tula's are $23.50 & CCIs are $27 if you can find 'em.
For that little bit, I'd get the CCIs (again) if I can find 'em.

If they're all I could get, I'd love 'em. And even if not, I guess I would buy them at a really low price, but only if I was already stocked up on the good stuff. They'd do in a pinch, and I could always trade them. But I'd be rather upset to end up with ONLY 10k Tula SPP or SRP over a measly $100 or $200 savings. If I was going to get up in arms over that piddly sum, I wouldn't be buying 10k primers. That's a lot of shooting sessions where I can expect some failures. And an additional burden to make sure the Tula loads don't get mixed in with my other longterm stored ammo.

Tula LPP and LRP, I'll buy all day.

I actually first purchased Tula SPP to save only $5-10.00 per K. And when I had a couple failures here and there, I convinced myself it was my own fault. I modified my primer arm. I modulated priming pressure. And I shot on. And finally, I shot a batch of reloads where I took the utmost precautions and attention to detail, and I had more failures than ever - about 11 in one range session. I was finally convinced Tula wouldn't work for me. And I spent a lot of time digging through my stored ammo to pull out the Tula loads. From the beginning as a blind noob, I've never had a single failure with CCI/REM/WIN primers. And I haven't, yet, after going back. The frenzy might have affected WIN QC, though. I did find my first primer sans anvil. At least it was obvious, cuz I prime on a SS press.

I did pick up some S&B primers, though. The verdict is still out, cuz I haven't gotten much range time, lately. So far, so good.

Im still kicking myself about deciding to hold off on ordering a bunch of wolf primers from wideners back in november... $14/k :what: . Instead I had to settle for squeezing a tula order in at PV late december for $20.50/k+ ship&hazmat. I like tula primers, they are cheap and they all (~10,000 so far) go bang.

I have heard a lot about tula primers being unreliable. I have gone through thousands and have never had a ftf. I can only speak for myself but I have no problem with them.

With the hazmat and shipping those Tula primers will cost you $27.75/k. IMO that's way too much for Russian primers especially since that was the price of CCI primers back in Dec. Locally when primers are available they are $30 for CCI and Win. It's just me but I won't pat that much for Russian or any other foreign primers.

Yes, this is kind of what I thought. Did any local stores carry Tula primers? I think I have enough til winter time, so all this craze should ease off and I plan on getting more. I think those primers perfectly fine for practice but I'd like to get them at $20/k if possible.

Tula primers are fine. I use them all the time and never had any problems. Just be aware that they may be a little bit harder to seat than other brands.

Midway has CCI SPP available now for $29.99.

Too spendy for me, I have 5K of Tula and have loaded 300 so far without any type of problem. However, I do agree they seat harder than others.

tula and wolf primers work for me. when primers were hard to get i order k's of both brands. never had any problems with pistol and/or rifle primers.
