PPC revolver and 38spl +P

Hi,
I just bought a PPC revolver with Aristocrat 3 way sight. The barrel is very fat, and it has "Davis Custom" stamped on it. The gun is shooting nice small groups at 25 yards. Anyway, is it safe to shoot +P ammo in custom barrel?

.008 for cylinder gap
.004 for endshake

I notice there's some end shake on the cylinder. Also the cylinder crank is loose. I mean when I leave the gun on the table and the cylinder out, the cylinder wants to close because the crank is loose. Looks like this gun has been shot a lot. Can these things be tightened up? Does it need to be?

Yes. The +P is loaded well below maximum pressure. Not a hot load. Marketing myth that it is in any way powerful. Plinking load in my book.

Davis built good revolvers, I used one in competition for about a decade. there should be a S&W model number under the yoke. What is it? Some of the older revolvers should not be used with +P, but I am talking about pre numbered guns.

End shake with the cylinder open is not normally a big deal. How much end shake do you have with it closed? Also, a custom PPC gun with the heavy barrels are designed for lead bullets and will have a faster twist than a stock barrel. I myself would avoid jacketed +P loads in my PPC gun. Gun will take a +P, but that expensive custom barrel was not designed for that and I prefer to shoot what was intemded to be shot out of it. I would suspect it would take a lot of jacketed +P loads without damage, but I"m not willing to chance it with my gun.
