My PPK is shooting way high, 10" 15yds. Is there anything I can do besides cutting a dovetail and replacing the front sight. I would really hate to do that.

What sight picture are you using with the PPK? On my Walthers, I have to remember to use a 6 o clock hold on the smaller ones in order to shoot accurately.

As far as the dovetail goes, yes. You will need to mill out the front sight in order to install a dovetail or pinned sight that you can adjust.

If you have the height above your aiming point and distance to target as accurately as you can measure the amount of additional height needed can be easily calculated.

Send the slide to Pullman Arms in Worchester MA and have their experts TIG/Micro/Laser weld the top of the sight with enough material to allow you to file down to your preferred zero.

What manufacturer? S&W PPK's have some well known sight issues, and the contractor that warranties them may have some answers. Lighter loads may help too. Defensive ammo often shoots higher, as does gimick ammo like that plastic matrix crap, or safety slugs. A much easier option would be lowering the rear sight to line things up if it shoots high with normal ammo. A typical handgun is 0'ed at 10-25 yards. so if your shooting closer, it will be hitting higher if the sights are right.

It's a real pre S&W PPK. I always use a 6 o'clock hold. Same basic poi at 10-30 yds with ball and hp of different manufacturers. Thanks BBBill. I think I will send it to them and have it built up with a TIG.

My PPK (non-S&W version) shoots high, and also a bit left, especially as range stretches. I've just lived with it, but it is irritating; particularly since it's such an accurate gun. It makes little tiny groups--just not in the right place.

Elevation correction formula: sight error (deviation from POA to POI) divided by the distance to the target (in inches) times the sight radius equals sight correction.
You give 10" as your POA/POI error. Distance to target is 15 yards times 36 = 540 inches. I believe the PPK sight radius is 4.2". If so then 10"/540" x 4.2" = .0777" taller front sight to match POA to desired POI. I would have them add a bit more to allow for cleanup of the welding along with zeroing.
