I set the DVR to play my kids a show this morning, the tv was on "Practical Tactical". Never heard of it and only caught the last 3 minutes but I set a timer and also one for "Conceal Carry School" which came on next. I just watched it, it's hosted by Gerald McRaney and the premise is they follow 9 people taking a course at TacPro in TX. The people taking the course are unfamiliar with firearms and they have a few actual self defense stories including a FL home invasion.

The show is geared toward people that are unsure about firearms and CCW and from what I can see it just may be enough to convert some anti-gunners.

It was on the TV in the background and I caught a bit of Concealed Carry School this morning and it seemed interesting, it's sponsored by Ruger and almost seemed to be a very slick and subtle infomercial for Ruger firearms - I don't recall any other pistol mentioned by name. Had some real people in the class who were dealing with the emotional trauma of being the victim of a violent crime and refusing to be a victim anymore. Showed some re-enactments of a couple defending themselves against violent crime with a gun.

I tell you what, if Spike TV keeps this up I may just have to forgive them for the awful anti-gun slant of that lousy "DEA" show.

Watching it on the DVR right now. So far, it's excellent, and yes, it is a half-hour long infomercial for Ruger.

But that's not a bad thing.

What annoys me is that the producers of this show haven't done their groundwork and engaged gunbloggers like myself and the online shooting community as a whole before they launched the show to generate buzz.

Bad marketing department! No lattés for you! :)

The lady on the show from Ruger was on Tom Gresham's show a few weeks ago.

sounds interesting. wish more t.v. shows were pro gun. even though it might be an infomercial for ruger it's still a good thing.

Which is fine, but that's one show. There's other podcasts Cam Edwards and Armed American Radio and Gun Nuts and The Handgun Podcast and gun blogs like Say Uncle and Snowflakes in Hell and The View from the Porch, not to mention forums like this one.

Putting all your eggs in one media basket just doesn't cut it these days.

I recently watched Practical Tactical the T.V. show and saw some discrepancies on one episode they where shooting weapons at a steel door to show what kind of damage the weapon could do and they called a SKS rifle a AK 47 just a minor thing but they should have got it right . Also Gerald Mcraney made the comment that the only reason to own a hand gun was for self defense. I disagree I shoot in USPSA,IPSC , and 3 gun matches every chance I get and practice all summer long and none of my guns are for self defense they are for enjoyment and pleasure only and I would have to say that I probably could out shoot most people that have bought guns for self protection only because they don't take the time to practice they just buy a gun and think they are safe and in all reality they are more unsafe because they don't take the time to get the right kind of training.

They are all in reruns now. The Concealed Carry School was put together by Ruger. They sponsored the whole thing and donated the firearms. The woman on the show pretty much put the whole thing together. Nothing wrong with that from my point of view. Beretta sponsors some of the other shows and Sig buys a big block of time in there often. Outdoor channel has a number of shooting shows on Wednesdays.

Not sure if its the same Gun Nuts, but the show that Field and Stream puts on is IMHO one of the best shooting shows. Its the only one I've found that doesn't act like an infomercial for Ruger, Sig, and S&W.
