While browsing through the gunstore yesterday I came across a Model 110 Hbar chambered in .223. No accutrigger on this one, but the trigger is fairly light and crisp with little creep. Action and bbl have made themselves at home on a Choate 'Ultimate Sniper' stock with harris bipods and are topped with a 6-18 power Bushnell with 2 pc base. Selling price was 500 bucks. I am broke at the moment, but went in first thing this morning and put her on layaway. Sounds like a pretty fair deal to me, so Im getting it.

What I am looking for is opinions on the pre- accutrigger rifles. Being a heavy barrel and being mounted on the Choate im thinking it will be pretty accurate. What types of groups can I expect from it? Anyone own one?

Thanks for the advice/opinions.

first, unless its old, its 10, not 110. double digit-short action, triple-digit, long action.

second, I got a good deal on a slightly used 10FP in 223 in the factory stock :uhoh: , with bases and rings, for $280.

shoots 5 shot 1/2" with Black Hills blue box 68gr Match HP.

if you got the rifle, Choate, Harris, and scope for $500, you got a steal, assuming she's a shooter. ;)

Most stock Savages in the heavy barrel models will shoot inch or a little better with the right ammo. .5" stock guns are very rare for any maker other than a custom or semi custom rifle with a good aftermarket barrel on them.

They're usually a bit more accurate right out of the box than comparable Remingtons/ Winchesters etc.

nipprdog, I think it is older. IIRC it is a 110 Tactical.
I was told the former owner of the gun shot a crow at 285 yards with it. I tend to believe this more than I do most gun shop tales, as at this shop a lot of the guns are basically passed around to pretty much the same group of guys, or so it seems. I bought my AR there used and they told me the history behind it and what it would do, and they were right.

Im looking forward to buying up some ammo and seeing what it will do. The rifle looks good, all in all. The caps on the scope turrets are a little scratched up, but other than that it is tip top. I think I am going to love this thing.

I had a 110 .308FP a few years back, was increadibly accurate. I sold it when I realized I wasn't shooting long enough distances to justify keeping it.

I have a 10FP that pre-dates the new trigger.

Not that the factory trigger was that bad, but for $75 I dropped in a Timney. There are several aftermarket sources of good triggers for Savages; if the trigger on this gun is not to your liking - replace it! ;)

If it is like mine, though, it is adjustable. Savage introduced an adjustable trigger that is not that different from the Timney trigger (which is itself a copy of Savage's second model adjustable trigger with a different spring arrangement). The adjustment screws are easily seen when the stock is removed (they allow you to adjust for weight of pull and let-off). The Timney is a great trigger, though. I have it in my 111C. (Oddly enough, my old Stevens 110 in .243 came with a fully adjustable trigger standard.)
