Keep Ya Eyes On Da Prize, If Ya Can Find It!
Ghost Ring sights look great. They are cool. Tacticool. Can someone (who actually shoots) explain how and why these particular rifle peep-sights are better at HD distances than a bead when, at close range, they actually block more of one's field of view than any other type?
I am an avid shotgunner. I bought a 590 A1 w/GR sights. Outta the box I put 50 straight rounds through it and broke 19 birds w/an Open Cylinder choke at 36 yards on a Sunday. Ordered a replacement bead sighted barrel on Monday, lesson learned.
GR sights make it more difficult to acquire and track a moving target ('cause you have no idea which way or how fast at what range a particular target is gonna move). As with the Enfield Rifle from which these sights descended, you hafta sorta have the targets in your sights before you can try to use them and carefully squeeze the trigger. And if it leaves your vision you've probably lost it. Many serious shotgun shooters actually shoot with two eyes open before they slap the trigger...
GR sights make an interesting intermediate-range arm, but not an HD gun.
