Price Check - 1949 Colt .38 Super 1911.

I saw one today in a LGS that was in really nice shape. Gorgeous, shiny blue. Asking price is $829. They also had a 1974 Colt Series 70 1911 for $679 in the same shape. Both are consignment guns. I think the .45 is priced low, but I don't know about the .38 Super.

That super, if original finish and 98%, might attract $1200-$1500 from a Colt collector.

I believe it to be the original finish. Not sure about the grips. No box or docs, though.

Any 1949 Colt 1911 in good shape and original blue is worth more than $829. I don't think I could have left that behind.

Well, I bought the '74 .45 Colt. No question about it though, I would have bought the other one instead if it was a .45 instead of a .38 Super.

I definitely would have gone for the .38 Super. As WC145 noted, a Colt M1911 from that time period is worth a lot more than $829. Still I think you got a heck of a deal on the Government Model at that price. Great finds either way. Enjoy your Colt.
