Ok so while I am looking for my first pistol I decided to visit the gun show that was going on this weekend while I debated on getting the CZ75B I have found. Needless to say, I ran into a guy at the gun show with a pristine CZ40B in .40 caliber which looked as if it had never been shot. However, the guy said it had been shot a few times at the range, in any case it was a beautiful gun, fit nice, etc. etc. so I asked what he wanted for it and he says he would take $450 for it, 3 mags, and a quick/easy loader he had for it. I really liked this gun so I told him I would think about it. On my way out I stopped back by his booth and got his number. I am seriously debating purchasing the 40B vs. the 75B (9mm). However, $450 seemed a little steep to me so I figured I would ask you guys on here for opinions. I can get the 75B I found for $299 or I can get the 40B for $450, but the guy did say he would not do taxes, etc. etc. So what do u guys think? Both are used in excellent shape, both are great guns, both fit well, etc. etc. I just don't know which would be better. I have found the 40B NIB at gunbroker.com for $325 but I prefer to do business with real people, if you know what I mean. I just am wondering if this dude is trying to screw me out of a$100 or so. He said he would negotiate but, I dunno how much LOL.

Also, as far as buying from an individual, what would I need to do? What kind of paper work needs to be done, etc. etc. I have never done this before. I am sure that my state, Alabama, has laws regarding this but for the most part they are really lenient here, but I do not know what to do as far as purchasing this thing legally. I guess I could call up the courthouse and ask. Last thing, is there a way I can check to see if this gun has ever been used in a crime or anything? I don't think it has but it never hurts to check I don't guess. Any advice, info. etc. would be very helpful and most appreciated.

The guy at the gun show was trying to take you for a ride; NIB 40Bs with two 10-round mags can usually be had for between $300 and $350 at the retail level.

A couple of years ago, the local Gander Mountain was having a "$50 off" sale on firearms. They didn't have any 40Bs in the display case, but I had the salesperson check their inventory; to his and my surprise, they had a couple in the backroom. The best part? They were regularly priced at $300, so with the sale discount, the "out the door" price was $250! Needless to say, I bought both of them. Those two 40Bs probably qualify as my best firearms purchase to date!

With some luck, someone on Gunbroker or Auction Arms might sell one for $300 or less. I missed out on CDNN's sale of CZ-40B's...they were selling them somewhere between $269 and $249 NIB a year ago. I managed to find a guy selling one NIB on Gunbroker for $257 and snagged it.....nice gun! Best part is that Mec Gar's 12-round CZ-75 .40 cal mags fit and function perfectly. I swapped the base plates from an OEM mag to the Mec Gars and now the Mec Gars look as if they are the OEM mags. The OEM mags are only 10 rounds in capacity.

Good luck on your search. There are three auctions on Gunbroker as of today (1/9/06); the highest bid amount is $325. This auction ( http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=42300539 ) ends in four days. I think this 40B is used, but has nice aftermarket wooded grips. 40B's out of the factory came with thin rubber grips.

SilentStalker, don't buy from the guy you ran into unless he is will to go much lower on the gun.

The mags would've jacked the price up about $30, but $450 is WAY out of line still. Especially considering the gun comes standard with two mags.

Recently saw a used one here in MD sell for $365 with 2 mags.

Great gun though - lots of fun to shoot.

Yup, he's asking to much. Williams Gunsight in Michigan has a used one for $315.00. link - http://www.williamsgunsight.com/809usedhandguns.htm

The CZ40B is going to be more expensive to shoot and since it has a lightweight alloy frame, you will notice more recoil versus the CZ75B in 9mm. Unless you plan on using this pistol for concealed carry, I would suggest getting the CZ75B, which is a great range gun.

I paid 300 for my CZ 40 and I love it just as much as my CZ 75. I rarely get the shoot the 40 though because my g/f has adopted it because she loves that Colt-ish look it has.

Not all of them. My 40B came with checkered hard plastic grips.

Silent Stalker, do you get to Atlanta very often? I've got a nice 40B that I got in trade that I've never even fired. It's got all of the misc. stuff that goes with it, including the cardboard outer box. I'd be interested in trading it for a compact, hammerless, 5-shot .38 or .357 in pretty much any finish except blued.

Before you guys get all uptight about a possible out of state transfer, I'm an AL resident with an AL license and Jeff. Co. pistol permit. :neener:

I got a 40B from a dealer around the time they came out for $300. The CZ75B at 299 would be a good deal.

I bought a cz75b recently ($350). My first cf autoloader, been shooting a S&W 38.sp. The 9mm is going to be much cheaper to shoot than the 40 that means you... shoot more and worry less about all those dimes going down-range:). Being your first pistol the 9mm would seem like a good choice. Stick w/ your first choice. JMHO

ps. The cz75 was kind of a fall back gun for me (really want a 9mm on a 1911 frame) but it's really been fun to shoot and seems to be well made, especially for the $. I'm happy with it.
