I was in a local shop yesterday and found a 629 for what I think is a good price. It's used, but in good condition. The bbl looks about 6" or so, and it is the short lug model. It has a few holster scuffs on the bbl, but it's stainless, so it doesn't show too bad. The bore looks nice and sharp with no defects, it's got almost NO cylinder play, timing is right, etc. Best of all, it's got a trigger that's like melted butter! Looks like it needs a good cleaning, but I expected that....

Anyway, they're asking $429 for it. Its that about the average for this gun in this condition? TIA!

Not a bad price, last year I paid $375 for a 29-3, six inch, nickel plated, 98%+ condition. I usually see 29's and 629's going for around $450.

I went searching for my first model 29 or 629 about 7 years ago. I was living in Northern Virginia. I called EVERY gun store and pawn shop within a 50 miile radius and the prices were between $550 and $750.

Later that week I left work to go to lunch and drove past a small gun store that I had forgotten about. Whipped the car into the parking lot and strolled in to look around. What did he have in the case? A Lew Horton Special model 29 in the original box that looked like it could have been unfired, or very few rounds fired. And the price? $395. I almost twisted my wrist trying to get my credit card out of my wallet.

In the condition you describe, sounds like a great deal.

Hey-Hey-Hey Folks-

I bought a NIB 5" barrel Smith & Wesson 629-5
Classic in July of 2000 for $509.95. I can't address the
current price issue? Your quote, doesn't sound too bad
cuz a S&W 629 in any form is a helle'va gun.

Best Wishes,
