I wasn't looking, but I bumped into a Winchester model 94 (It looks like a traditional) in 30-30 today at a gun shop, it's used but looks brand new, not a single mark. It was listed for only $250. Now I've always wanted one, so I stood there wondering why it was so cheap, I talked about it with the dealer (maybe just employee) and niether of us could see why it was that price, so I put it on lay-away.

Is this as cheap as I think it is? or is this the going price for a used model 94 in 95% condition?

To get a heads-up on price, check out the prices at your local Wal-Mart -- A few bucks extra for your local gun shop is commendable, but checking Wally World will give you an idea of a low price and let you purchase it with your eyes wide open. Also check www.gunsamerica.com for market prices.

$250 does seem pretty good if it's in good shape. The Wal-Marts around here sell them new for $280 or so.

Whew, I thought I had posted something evil, and would get no responses.

Thanx for you ideas guys.

I did check gunbroker.com last night and they only had a few listed, and none of them were the same model. after checking MSRP I kind figured it was really not a super deal, but a fine deal.

Wally World here in PHX, AZ doesn't carry these very often like they would back east, our deer hunting is usually the ability for longer distance.

I think they price is fine, not great, but pretty good.

I'll probably use it for Javalina next year, I kinda felt stupid last year with my .270 WSM while most everybody I saw was using Muzzle loader's, Bows, or Pistols. I think a 30-30 would be a good balance of firepower and sport.

They may not display it but every Walmart (except for Ca) carries a book behind the counter with every gun they can get. They can get the majority of new firearms sold. Ask someone at the counter and they can tell you.

I dont know the prices of Winchester vs Marlin, but you are getting close to retial value of a new Marlin .30-.30 if thats any help.
