Sadly, I am having to sell several of my guns. One on the block is my Smith & Wesson 17-5, 6" barrel, .22 LR, with target trigger, sights and hammer. The SN is AWYXXXX. Factory cardboard box is included.

It's in very good condition - no major scratches, a little bluing is worn on the muzzle, only a faint turn line, no chips in the S&W stocks (I haven't checked to see if they are numbered to the gun)

A gentleman here on THR has suggested that per BB value its only worth ~$400. I am hoping to get closer to $600. Based on some GB auctions, I can see this valued anywhere from $300 - $900 for NIB.

I'm a lousy photographer, so this doesn't do it justice:

What do you think? Am I out of luck?

Tough time to sell a .22, but prices for S&W revolvers are currently high. Hope you have some time to wait for the right buyer to come along.

$600-$700 I'd say. I find "the book" to be next to useless when judging real world firearms values. Check completed auctions on Gunbroker. If you put it for auction I'd be surprised if it went for less than $600.

Later K22's aren't worth as much as the earlier models, but sight unseen, I would place it's value at $500-600.

The blue book is pretty useless for guns that are increasing in value at the rate that Smiths seem to be going up.

I have a 17, made in '51, about 98%, and I've been told not to take a nickel less than $900 for it. No box though. Sorry you have to part with a dandy revolver.

I just bought a 17-5 for $600. It had 40 rounds through it, box, everything, and it a true 99% gun. From spending a lot of time looking in gun shops and what not, I think I paid a fair price for the gun, and I'd personally try to get 600 for it if it were me.

To me, also, the gun being in really good condition brings a premium. So many you see are beat to hell and still overpriced.

Best of luck!

My blue book show a bit different prices. 550 for 95% and 625 for 98%. To get to the 400 you were quoted it would have to be 85%, which doesnt seem to match your photo and description. My blue book is the online version.
