From what little researching I can do it seems the gun is worth about $750 in excellent condition. Does that seem about right to you guys/gals?

$750 on the low side to about $900 on the high side depending on your area. I was seriously looking for one pre-SH and that is what I found.

No doubt, $500 is a lopsided deal in your favor. Interestingly, he brought a gun and you robbed him! LoL

$500 is about right. Those are ridiculously over-priced these days. I recently bought one at $550, decided I didn't like the sight and sold it for six. Stopped in a store the same day and saw one in worse shape for $700. No way could I look someone in the eye and sell him one at that price.
