Went to my friendly neighborhood pawn shop today. Have bought several firearms from him. He has a Gew98 Orbedorf Mauser, dated 1917, good bore with strong rifleing, the "humpback"sight, stock numbers match but the bolt is different, clean stock. Missing front barrel band and spring. Asking $300 +tax. Also has a "butcher boy" bayonet with sheath, exellent condition, for $200 if I buy the rifle.

Deal, or No Deal?:D

i purchased a 98k Mauser at a gunshow with about 90% matching serial numbers. (i think the barrel band, sights and one other thing are missmatched) I beleve it was a 1942 not real sure on where it was manufactured. blueing i would say was around 80%+ it has russian capture marks on it. Strong rifling. it has slight pitting on the bolt from some corrsoive ammo i shot out of it and didnt clean it right away! (the guy told me the ammo was non corrosive and come to find out it was!) I paid 230.00 for it. i could have gotten it for less but there was another guy there interested in it and that brought the price up around 50$.

im not a Mauser expert (all i know is from researching my rifle on the internet) but i bet you could get it alot cheaper than 300.

All of the numbers match, except for the bolt. Have not been able to find this model for sale. Can't find the bayonet either!
