I recently found an M1938 Carcano chambered for 7.35mm for $125.00. It did not appear to have been altered in any way and looked to be in pretty good shape. I know I'd have to load my own ammo, including forming brass for the rifle. The appeal to me is mostly novelty and as a companion piece for the 6.5mm I've got. Any word will be appreciated.

Odd bore size is the bug a boo. My first Mil Surp at age 12 and nailed a few woodchucks with it. 9.95 for the rifle and about six bucks for the ammo. I'd save my money.........Essex

I'd think that's a pretty good price for a collector, though shooting them is expensive. I had one and couldn't even find jacketed bullets to reload with...I would've had to cast my own lead bullets.

Check to see if the receiver has a Finnish "SA" stamp - if so, it'd definitely be worthe the $125.

Fair, but mind that ammo's pretty expensive, and only Grafs has the right size bullets. That said, you can use regular 6.5 cases, at least. Just necked up for .299 bullets.

I just paid $175 for one in VERY good shape with the SA stamp. I consider it worth the money, as much as I can without having fired it.

You guys need 7.35 ammo? So happens I have about 400 rounds in original boxes on clips. 6 rounds per clip, three clips per box, 1939 headstamp. ammo is clean, no corrosion. (the grease that the Italians used on the bullets has a slight translucent green cast, probably reacted with the brass jacket.) Wipe it off and it looks like they were made yesterday. Would sell for $18 a box. Or 10 boxes for $150. I see this stuff on commercial sites for $39 a box. No guarantee on sure fire, as I have no rifle to test it (gave an old WWII vet the rifle for Christmas:)). PM me if you are interested.

I had to look at your location to see if you where around here. There is one just like that sitting in the local gun shop for the same price. It is also 7.35 and marked "SA". It's in pretty decent shape for what it is. The stock is somewhat dinged up but the cartouche is pretty clear. The bore is quite dark but the rifling still looks strong. I thought about making them an offer for it but can't justify buying another rifle right now.

Thanks

Thank you for the input. I checked the store and it's been sold. I'm sort of kicking myself now thinking whoever picked it up will do something terrible to it-- like rebore/rechamber it or something like that. You guys made me aware of the "SA" thing though. As I'll probably pick one up somewhere I'll be on the lookout. Like I said before, my interest is mostly for the novelty and as a companion for the 6.5mm Carcano I've got. I think the one I have is a fine shooter and I'd like to try the larger caliber version.
