Assuming you could find one (I'm sure there is one in a museum somewhere), what is would be the price for a new, never been turned or fired, original 1858 Remington New Army?
Price varys greatly with condition. A truly unfired gun would fetch at least $5K, probably more. A good shooter-grade gun (mechanically immaculate, but not perfect in blueing, etc.) would fetch about $2500.
The chances of finding an actual unfired/unturned Remington New Army would be next to zip, but if you did it could easily fetch ten grand or more. The few that come close are usually cased with accessories (powder flask, bullet mold, etc) and command even higher prices.
Found a Rem at a local shop...compared it to my ASP Rem and all...it had a buckhorn type site only a small one on the rear and a modified front site...looked ok a lil rough used, for $450 I came back the next day to barter or buy and it was gone. That was my chance.
If one is ever in Hartford, check out this museum Colt collection for free.
I should go and visit there myself since I'm less than 15 miles away and only went there once on a school field trip. It consists of 2 or more rooms of guns on display.
A good friend of mine was given a collectors 1911 cased for his birthday from his father ...he took it home and couldn`t resist pulling the slide back ..and when he did it cut the value in half of what it was worth ,( it left a scratch line where the slide is ) he was told by other collectors he might as well shoot it now . What a shame .
Yup. That's why those of us who shoot originals tend to look for mechanically sound guns that have some wear on them. A minty gun? That goes under glass, not to the range.
I just don`t have much serious collector blood in me ..They aren`t much fun unless I can fondle them ..sorta like haveing a beautiful wife and only getting to look ..LOL
When I go to gun shows I have to keep my hands in my pockets , untill someone says ....sure hold her have a good look ! Then out pops my hot little hands and a big grin covers my face ....only then am I convienced I just can`t live without it .
