I was curious what the going rate for a 125th S&W Anniversary Model 25 45LC. I found one in local "Tactical" type Gun store. They had it listed for $1200. Id give the finish 98%, no box or papers. Light Turn line. They had it listed at $1200. Way too much. Honestly Id rather have a 5 inch N frame so I can use my existing holsters and Im due myself a present. Whats the current value on these guys?

Agreed. Way too much for what is essentially a standard S&W with some glitter stuck on it.

Agree with Drail, Id only pay $750 max myself. I was leaning towards buying that exact model in comparable condition with the box and tools and that was for 700 a couple of years ago, I didnt end up getting it due to numerous claims of having oversized dimensions up to .458 in some cases

I see a tag for an M29 3 screw six inch barrel for $1,100.

Is that a correct value for that gun?

The tag does say collectible on it though....

A local gun shop here had one listed at $899 for a long time and lowered it to $799 and then it disappeared. I'm still kicking myself.

I didn't even look at that one. It had been worn hard and barrel hit with a belt sander. You can get a new one for $900. But the 25 raised my interest because I was curious about how special the anniversary model was and they are not geared to non-tactical firearms so thought they might not really know the true value of what they had

I was given one of those. They were made in the time Smith was owned by some crap company, I think. It was pretty, but a real pos to shoot. The front latch wasn't close. The cylinder chambers were something like .461. The hammer rubbed the frame badly. But the worst what I think was the front of the cylinder was not square. It hit the forcing come on two of the chambers. So you could only fire it double action on half of the chambers. It had sentimental value to me, so I sent it back and told them I would pay whatever it cost to fix. They told me that since it was a special model, they could not work on it. I haven't given them a dime since, and got rid of the pos.
A couple of years later, I saw another one at Reeves Jungkind's. He said the one he bought was terrible, too. But he sent his in, and they fixed it as warranty! And it was perfect when he got it back.
Guess my money wasn't worth as much as his name.

There was one listed locally complete with box, etc. for $1,050. It was listed almost daily for almost a month, then disappeared. Don’t know if it finally sold or the guy gave up.

I actually think these are a little undervalued. It was the first S&W catalogued in .45 Colt for many years, and that caliber was never seen in S&W's before then very often.

People who shoot them on the S&W forum usually get good accuracy from them, despite the cylinder throat internet warnings.

And any 6 & 1/2" barreled N-frame is a good looking gun.

I brought some electronic calipers when I check out the one I was gonna buy and measured it at .457 , I dont believe upsettage from a .451-454 bullet is gonna make up for that drastic of a change

Mine is nice,it has a very good action and everything is square. The throat is .456" and the chamber mouths .457-.458" It did 3" groups at 25 yards with the last box of Federal 225 grain Champion ammo I fired thru it to adjust the sights at 25 yards. Mine has only seen 100 round in 15 years and I'd take $1400 on the 99% gun in the case with the book. Local gun store where I sell stuff said they would buy it at $1000 and sell at $1400.;)

IF you are buying that pistol as a shooter do NOT forget that it has the short N-frame cylinder and will not chamber handloads using the classic 45COLT cast bullet, Elmer's 454424, crimped correctly in the crimp groove. It will accept the modern MAGMA 255grSWC bullets and such in .454"O.D. shoot to beat the band in my 45COLT sixguns.
As a factory bullet the R-P 250gr LFN .455" swaged bullets can be excellent in those fattassed I.D. cylinders.
And so it goes...

The cylinder is short as they used the earlier acp cylinder rechamber for some idiot reason. It will NOT accept the Hornady pointed ammo :( it does accept my .45LC reloads I generally shoot with a 255 grain Lee 6 cavity mold. I don't reasize and only tumble lube and they are .454" . I am not shooting this gun anymore as the value is going up pretty well if I don't use it and I have a nicely worn 4" 25-5 and a couple SAAs for shooting .

I have to disagree with the earlier posts saying $750 would be max. A plain old S&W 25-5 in .45 Colt sold last week on GB for $855.00; no box or papers. This fancier one would be worth more; maybe not the full $1200, but $950 - $1k would seem a reasonable retail price. Model 25 revolvers are less common in .45 Colt.

It's not a terribly good sign but it's not a guarantee that it won't shoot either.
