What is your favorite primer for 308 Winchester? Consider a 150 soft point projectile in a hunting rifle. Magnum? Match? Or plain old Large Rifle?

I like Federal or CCI match primers for my 308, mostly because I got a good deal on a few thousand of each. Regular CCI does okay too in my own experience.

You don't need magnum primers in the 308 Win, at least with none of the powders I used.

If you are using a semi automatic mechanism use CCI #34's or Tula7.62 primers. These are mil spec primers, are less sensitive than commercial, and they will reduce your risk of a slamfire.

For bolt rifles, pick a primer. I have used Fed 210S out to 1000 yards, CCI #34's to 600, WLR used to be a great service rifle primer, but then they removed the nickle coating and made them more sensitive. Still the brass colored WLR shot fine in 308.

If your rifle is old, the mainsprings ancient, use Federals. Federals are the most sensitive primer on the market.

Match primers are expensive and if you see a difference on paper with a match primer, it won't be worth the additional cost in a hunting rifle.
