OK.. I'm down to my last 140 or so primers *gasp* Long story short, here's a list of primers that I am curious about using - prices are about $5 difference between all of them; I have been using winchester primers with H335 with 100% success.. However I will be picking up some IMR 4198? and Accurate 2230 OR 2460 to try. It will be used in an AR-15..

Winchester
Remington 7 1/2 (benchrest)
CCI Military

Appreciate the help. If anything else I'll just continue using Winchester primers.

Stick with the Winchester. They are all I use in my AR's. I also use the same powders you have listed. They are good to go.

The new Winchesters are softer than the old ones from what I hear. I use both CCI & Remington BR primers with equal and very good results. I also use Reloader 15 with SMK bullets from 52 to 80 gr.

I've always had good luck with the CCI primers, except during the great primer scare of 1991, when I had issues, but that was all you could get then.

i have heard through 2 sources that the WSR and WLR are the "hottest" of the major manufactures also! i have use all four powders mentioned with WSR, with sucess.
for some reason Rem. primers are hard to come by in my area, other than gun shows or mail order but being a cheap @#% i don't want to buy by the 1000 or pay hazmat handling charges.
never heard of military CCI but have used their regular small rifle and the benchrest primer with good results.

All I use is CCI primers, I have not had any to not go bang yet. CCI is a bit harder than some of the others if you are concerned about slam fires from what I understand, But I may get corrected on that.

i really like win primers. if they were working well for u, i wouldnt invest in a large quanity of another kind until u know they will work as well as the win primers u were using.

I have winchester, CCI, and Remington sittting in the reloading supplys right now. Never shot remington or federal. I try to stick with CCI BR Primers for my 223 and 308.

I have seen some warnings floating around about not using winchester primers in AR rifles.

Then again I have heard that all primer cups are the same as they all come from the same place.

The CCI mil-spec primers definitely have a harder cup than the Winchesters or Remingtons. That shouldn't be a problem in the AR, but I've had them fail to fire in a contender due to light hammer strikes. A heavier spring in the contender cured the problem, but I'd never seen it with other brands of primer. (For the record changing the springs in a contender is NOT something to do on a whim).
