Primers for loading 7.62x39 to prevent slamfires?

Federal does make a primer for the AR's in their Gold Metal Line, GM205MAR. They do work, I tested them in my AR's.

JP Interprise makes a special bolt assembly with a lightened firing pin for AR-10's. I had to switch over to it with my AR 6.5CM. The heavier bolt and springs can and will set off Federal's standard primers pretty easily. This bolt/FP setup also eliminated all primer flow due to over sized holes for the FP. When you have 0.003"-0.004" of clearance on such a small hole it's going to cause a problem, even with hard heavy primer cups.

No they didn't.

No they didn't.

James River Armory was building "BM 59", with an eclectic mix of US Garand parts and Italian parts to make a version of the BM 49. As the pictures in this thread show, a US GI Garand receiver with a US GI Garand bolt. For a 20 round magazine to fit there must be some changes under the wood.

Close enough for Government work.

Right...but the Italians didn't modify bolts for spring loaded firing pins.

Dunno...none of my BM 59s or my italian bolts are modified for them.

None of my Italian Garand bolts were modified either. I built up an "all correct" Berertta Garand (if a VAR barrel is correct, than it is all correct) and this match Garand with a BMR receiver

I used a GI bolt on the match rifle, but used the Italian trigger group

I am glad I purchased a whole bunch of Beretta parts, as those parts were cheap, and good. Total drop in for GI Garand receivers, and high quality. At the time, I had buds who looked down on the Italian parts, but you know, Beretta has been making rifles since the 1600's, and is still making firearms, so they ought to know what they are doing.

Military weapons go through rebuilds, it is very possible that the rifles that came in, at some point in time, the Italians started modifying the bolts with a spring. Those that had not made it in, were left alone.

Sort of like the secret recalls on Takata airbags. If the airbag blew , and did not kill the passenger or driver, the car manufacturer replaced the airbag.

My favorite 7.62x39 primers are the KV-24N Berdans made by the Murom Apparatus Producing plant in Murom Russia.

These are the same primers that the Soviets relied on for later production 7.62x39 ammo. The Russian Federation still uses them.

I figure they oughtta know what works.

These primers are currently (formerly?) imported by FedArm and sold as "Fort Smith" brand.
