I sold some guns back in 2010 Sep/ Oct. mostly FTF private sale. Everyone I met I made sure I looked at their TX DL or TX CHL and all looked like upstanding individuals. I got Bill of Sales for some of them and but there are two guns that I did not get a Bill of Sale for and have no information on who I sold those guns to (other guns without a BOS I atleast have some info on them name and/or email and/or phone numbers).

I am stresing out about the two I have no info on. Im worried something down the road could happen (stolen or new owner sells to wrong person) and the Authorities showing up at my place asking about them.

Is this something to worry over or should I just relax?

I wouldn't give it any worry at all. Private sales are legal and there is no requirement to keep documentation. As long as you don't have reason to believe they were felons you're good.

Looking at the CHL should cover that one. Put it out of your mind. If the authorities were to ever show up just tell them that, you sold the guns to someone with a CHL and that's all you remember.

The two I have no info on had no CHL's :( (I have no info on them, because I deleted their emails and text messages b/c I was stupid and wanted to clean out my email inbox, should have saved them)

But both of them were real good guys. My wife says I am going to give myself a heart attack worrying about this.

Thank you for replying TexasRifleman

Im going to try to relax and get on with life ( been worrying about this for a month and a half now)

Yeah even then there isn't any real worry. As long as you didn't have a reason to believe they were felons it's still good.

And truth is, less than 1% of guns used in crimes are purchased legally anyway.

Your odds are about as good to win the lottery as to have this ever even come up.

Put down the nitroglycerine pills :)

TR gave you the straight scoop. You did not break any laws, period. Grab a cold beer, sit down, put your feet up and relax already. This is Texas son :D and I'm sure Ron White, comedian, ("in Texas you kill one of us we kill ya back") would hoist one for ya. :)

lol, will do

*puts down pills* *slowlly walks away*

I lost FTF receipts in a flood for 5 or 6 gun sales in 98-99. I sweated for a bit, then realized stuff happens. Don't even sweat it :)

Will I have bought and sold several rifles, pistols, and shotguns FTF here in Texas over the last 30-35 years with out an issue.
Dont let this stuff grind on you.
We dont live in New Jersey.

Yeah Texas is a FREE state. As said, as long as you don't have reason to believe they are not permitted to purchase a firearm, no sweat. I buy and sell all the time to private individuals, and unless there's a reason to think they aren't permitted to buy, I don't worry. I do ask if they have a CHL but if they don't, that's OK. Of course most of the guns I'm selling aren't likely to be used in a holdup (older military rifles). When's the last time a French MAS 36 was used in a stop-n-rob??

Like TR said, as long as you don't reasonably believe they were prohibited from ownership, you've broken no laws and have nothing to worry about. I very seldom bother with a BOS, just judge character. If I felt I needed a BOS to cover my own butt with a particular buyer, I wouldn't proceed with the transaction at all.

Thank you for the replies. I have calmed down a lot reading your replies. From here on out, just to make myself feel better, I will do a BOS.

I finally was able to get a good nights sleep this week, anxiety would keep me up most nights.

I've bought, sold, traded so many firearms over the years at gun shows, FTF, wherever.

If I kept track of all the tranactions, I'd probably have a truckload of receipts.

Parking lot sales are perfectly legal in Texas.
