In ’04, there was a staff editorial “Out, Damned Spot” which said that the blood of people killed in Iraq and Americans who died because they couldn’t afford healthcare was on the hands of people who voted for Bush. The staff has changed since then, but it is still very liberal!

Glad to see a pro-CCW issue, but it is a *huge* mistake to treat RTBKA as a conservative issue only. Many THR-ers are self-proclaimed liberals in many regards. I voted for a dem within the past year, although I generally don't. I find our country's approach to health care reprehensible and am not ashamed to say so.

Gun-owners run the political spectrum. Much respect for those who agree with Dems on many issues but still fight for RTKBA. It's an uphill battle for those folks more than for the political conservatives here. Health policy and gun policy are not related.

I didn't mean to say that RKBA is a conservative value only.
I understand that there are gun-owners who run the political spectrum, I've even seen a list at Amazon.com that says "Want to be a pistol-packing liberal?"

I'm sorry, I shoud've been more articulate, and yes, even I have voted for Democrats in the past.

RKBA is and always should be a non-partisan issue, and I don't base my vote on whether someone has a (R) or (D) after their name, but on the basis on who I think would do the best job running the country and how much they respect our civil rights, such as RKBA.

Sorry about the confusion. I should've left the political commentary out of it.

I understand what THR is about, and I have to say I was very surprised to see an article in support of CCW on university property in my school's newspaper.

I also understand that commentary on Iraq & the US healthcare system have no part at THR. There are other venues for that.

So, what does everyone think about the articles?

The U.S. may not have a perfect healthcare system, but those who wish to change it will make it worse. Neat article. The author needs to learn about paragraphs, but sometimes sounds bites can convey a maximum amount of information in a minimum amount of space. He hit most of the major points. Wish he could've said something about incidents where CCW in schools saved lives, but he probably didn't have enough space.

Very, very off-topic, but I strongly disagree, and I have done more than sufficient research to support that opinion. Our "system" is more than not perfect. For a huge proportion of people it is non-existent, and for another huge segment it is ruinously expensive. It is entirely difference from RTKBA because there is (under all but the most extreme scenarios) no constitutionally protected right involved, leaving far, far more lattitude for reasonable minds to differ.

Which article(s) are you referring to, delta9? A she wrote the first one, and the second one is a staff article.
Anyway, I sent an e-mail to the staff, about as objective as I could be, about CCW laws across the US, such as Utah, where I believe it is legal to carry on campus.

Yes, it is far off topic. That is why I brought it back in relation to the right to keep and bear arms. As I could not let such an offhand comment just slip by, I had to bring attention to it. However, this is not the forum for a health care debate, but I would suggest checking out John Stossel lately. (Incidentally, John Stossel also has some excellent work about the failures of gun control.)
