I purchased a 2006 model year Mossberg 500 w/ an Rxxxxxx serial number, which according to Havlin Sales should have the 6.5" action slide and my measurements confirm that it does. I purchased one of their closeout synthetic sets for serial numbers K850xxx and higher (6.5" slide). However, when I tried putting them on today, the forend was clearly too long. Total length is about 9", while the stock wood forend that came on the gun is around 8.25".

My question is...is the synthetic forend that I got really intended for a 7-5/8" action slide? I plan on calling Havlin tomorrow, but first wanted to see if anyone else has run into this issue or may be able to provide some insight. If you have a gun that has a 7-5/8" slide, how long is your forend? Any help would be appreciated.

Stock Set in Question - 500BU

Well I feel like an idiot now...talked to Cheryl at Havlin and she said all the forend needs is a little persuasion w/ a hammer to get it seated and the additional length is not an issue. Yes, the synthetic stock is longer, but once seated it has no interference w/ the ejection port. The action end nut took a bit of effort to get the threads started, but after that everything went on smoothly. Anyways, I think the price on this set is hard to beat and the service was excellent.
