Is there a fix for racking .45 Hollow points in the Taurus Millennium PT145 Pro?
I cannot rack a fully loaded mag but I have been successful with up to 7 in the mag.
Is it because the spring is too tight or, like the manufacturer told me, it's not chambered for hollow points.
I've read many accounts of people shooting 230 Grs. hollow points.
Is there a certain brand I need to look for? Or, do I have to go with less rounds when I use the hollow points?

I have the same problem with mine. Hornady Tap ammo - more of a pryamid shape hollow point rather than round feeds just fine. I can't afford another gun right now, or I would probably carry something different.

Did you try Hornaday or Corbon Powerball, both have the plastic ball or tip to make it more like FMJ ammo. I haven't seen any pistol stick with it yet

So 7 rounds of HP will feed/chamber fine but not when loaded to 8-10 rounds with the same HP rounds?

Sounds like the problem may be magazine related. If you are not experiencing any feeding problem with 7 rounds but with 8-10 rounds, I would suspect the magazine and work on replacing them.

- Do you have any feeding/chambering issues with factory RN ammunition when loaded to 8-10 rounds?

- Are the magazines factory? Factory magazines will have the Taurus logo on the bottom of the base plate.

- Do the magazines have any damage to the lips/follower to affect the feed position/angle?

- Are the magazines correct for the pistol model? Magazines for the regular PT145 model will not work with the newer Pro PT145 model.

Taurus pistols carry life-time warranty (regardless whether you are the original owner or not). If you are having feeding/chambering issues with factory magazines, I would give Taurus USA customer service a call for magazine replacement/shipping label.

Thanks for everyone's responses!
Looks like I've got a lot of homework to do.

I do have original Mags (2) they both respond the same.
Correct model, ec.
Looking into what "generation" my pistol is.
When I spoke to Taurus they looked up my serial number & said my weapon was manufactured in 2008 & not "chambered" for hollow points.
Will call back & ask about "generation."
FMJ's load perfectly.

Looking for jacketed HP's now. Will get a box & try them out.

Hornady critical defense rounds might work. The 45's have a very similar profile to
ball ammo.

Carry Ammo help

Thanks 460Kodiak.
Been online ALL DAY!
No one within 100 miles of me are carrying the Hornady .45 Critical Defense ammo.
Perhaps a sign.
If my Taurus Millenium PT145 Pro can't carry hollow points, what are your suggestions for other ammo that I can carry for defense?

THANX!

I wonder if any will expand out of a 3" barrel? maybe a Speer short barrel version but may have feeding issues with the big HP cavity. I have a PT145 that i carry around the house some but i load one hp in the tube and then ball in the magazine.

^ I done the same thing with my PT when I still had it. My solution to it not feeding HP's...

Sell it and buy a pistol that will take HP's I have owned 3 Taurus and now have none. Will not be a 4th one in my house. To many good pistols out their to worry about 1 that won't take HP

I've fed mine 175, 200 and 230 gr. hollow points with out a problem. The only load it would bobble was a 165 swc reload that I had to tweak the a.o.l. on, but even that one feeds fine now.

A bogus excuse. While I wouldn't want to stand in front of 230-grain FMJ, a modern .45 handgun should have no problem feeding hollowpoints, within reason.

There are some other things to look at. First, the hollowpoint may need a more round-nose shape to it. Some guns don't like conical-shaped JHPs. Some 230-gr JHPs have a long overall length, and the gun may feed better with 200s or 185s. Do the rounds feed when you actually shoot the gun? Does the round feed when you release the slide from lockback? Or does this only happen when you hand-rack it? You may want to look at your racking technique.
