Problem seating primers

When I use my RCBS swager die, I just push down hard on the rockchucker handle, maybe 30-40 lbs. Am I working too hard? Is it easier than that?

Sam Adams, you didn't mention (or I didn't see) what brand of primers you might be using.

I ran across a very similar problem when I was using CCI primers which are, as primers go, harder metal than most and are less forgiving.

When I switched to Winchester and Remington primers I found I was cutting my deformed primers to nearly zero. They seem softer so they pocket seat much, much easier.

I now find few crimped brass that I can't prime using Winchester and Remington.

I don't even own a pocket crimp removal tool and, for plinking, I'll load any brass I can find and that's safe enough to load. :D

I've primarily been using a load of Federal match primers, but I also used some "regular" Winchesters for fouling rounds and had the same problem. Thanks anyway, but it was the primer pockets, not the primers.

I got my RCBS die yesterday, but haven't had a chance to use it yet. However, it looks to be very well-made, and I look forward to trying it out.
