Problem with CVA .31 brass derringer

I bought this online about a week ago. Went to load it for the first time yesterday. According to the book, it calls for a #11 cap. But with the cap on the nipple, the barrel didnt want to close. I am using CCI #11 caps. Do they have more of a load, or am I doing something wrong?

Can you push the cap down farther? I have one of those, an old ASM model. I shot it once or twice and don't remember any problems with it........

Try another brand of cap. Each brand is a different size.

I just popped a cap with it. I was able to take the dowel I use as a ramrod in my other derringer and push it down farther. But I was worried. It took a good bit of force. And I was afraid I was going to make the cap pop.

In later catalogs they are called "Pony" (maybe a Colt reference) and I have seen them called "Southerner" as well.
