FYI:

I was charging primed 25.06 cases yesterday and when I went to seat bullets they loosely slipped into neck!! I had only charged 3 cases so, I dumped the powder back into the powder container.

I disassembled the RCBS sizer die and noticed a build up of case lube on and around the neck sizer ball. I cleaned off the crud and relubed the cases then resized them and voila neck tension returned!!

Problem solved!

you are correct ! it was the sizer die not the seater die!! My mistake!! I edit my original post!!

Thanks J Morris!!

I've never had that problem. Are you sure that you didn't forget to resize them or get some unsized cases mixed in with sized ones? Stuff happens.......... But I've never had enough gunk or old lube to build up in a die to cause this.

Assuming these cases had been sized before being primed, had these cases sat for a long time? And how many firings were on them? They could possibly be work hardened and need annealing as well to bring the neck tension back if they have a couple firings on them. Ive had this happen with 223 with 5-6 firings on it where I batch size the brass and it sits for awhile, then when I load it, bullets are dropping into the cases.

Hydraulics Expansion- i used to lube inside of necks with a Qtip & Lee case sizing lube. The expander can make necks larger, out of round, when the lube gets trapped. Seating a Boatail bullet with lots of lube still in the case neck can do it also.

Use dry lube or an RCBS brush/lube for necks.

I like your post about my problem with the expander ball on my 25.06 die. As you guessed i always dab a little resize lube inside the neck of my cases. over time it built up and caused the problem.

I cleaned off the old lube on the expander ball and everything went back to normal. Thanks for the
info.
