I bought one of these, shot 50 rds. & HAD ALOT OF PROBLEMS - FTF, FTE, STOVEPIPES, etc. Took it back to dealer. He said he removed a small burr from the barrel & shot 100 rds. thru it & it worked fine. I think he said 50 Winchester & 50 Federal or whatever. I haven't had a chance to try it again. If I continue to have problems I think I'll just get rid of the damn thing. Maybe I should have spent more $ and got a Buckmark. My dealer wants $500.00. OUCH! Or, maybe I'll get a Ruger Single Six. Obviously, I won't have problems w/ that. Comments, suggestions, pls. Thanks!

Uh, err, maybe try the gun out, now that he removed the burr?

I have a Mark II Target and a Mark II 22/45 that are both solid. I've used them both for competition, and they've served me well. The Mark II Target has had aftermarket match-grade parts and work done on it, but the 22/45 is bone-stock.

None of the work done was to improve feeding; I just wanted a bullseye-match-grade trigger, and some control upgrades for range convenience -- at least one of which Ruger took care of with the Mark III anyway.

They're the most reliable semiautos I have ever owned, or even used. I believe they may be the most reliable production semiauto rimfires available. They go a long time between cleanings, too.

My bet is that you'll like the gun once you try it again.

Similar problem but resolved

I had a similar issue. Purchased and shot about 300 rounds of 1300 fps + ammo through the gun and now all is fine. Pretty typical break-in procedure in my experience.

I had problems with my Mark 3 22/45 doing the same as yours. It took several hundred rounds before it started to break in. I found if I kept the chamber clean and used CCI ammo all problems stopped for me . Hollow point ammo gives me some feeding problems so I use those only when hunting.

My 22/45 always has run flawlessly. However, I will tell you this: some guns like Mini Mags more than standard loads. And as Rhino posted, CCI ammo is really what you should be feeding it. There's other good brands, too, but CCI seems to be the best for quality and consistency.

I've had two MkIIs and a MkIII Hunter, and all work perfectly.
Give it a chance now that he's worked on it. Me, I'd have probably let Ruger fix it--that's what warrantees are for.
