Okay, in early January of 2009 I ordered 60,000 bullets from rainier ballistics over the phone. I was told over the phone that all of them were in stock and that they would hold them until they received my check which I sent the same day. They didn't accept credit cards at the time so sending a check was the only way I could make payment. I asked if they would still hold my order until the check arrived and they happily agreed.
Well, a month went by and I still had not received any bullets so I called them to ask if they got my check. They said that they had gotten it and that the bullets would be on the way. A few weeks later about half of my order showed up. I was okay with the wait as I knew that things were crazy at the time and everyone was having a hard time keeping up with orders. I sold the bullets that they sent me easily and wanted more but knew it would be pointless to order more since they hadn't even sent my whole order yet.
Upon contacting them about the rest of my order I discovered that it would be another month and a half before more would show up. When they finally did I was still missing 10,000 rounds of 30 carbine bullets. At the time the cost for them was only $630. I emailed them to make sure they knew I was short and they assured me that I was not forgotten.
Well, to make a long story short I have yet to get the bullets sent to me. It has been one year and 2 months that they have had my money. Yesterday I got a letter from them with their new inflated pricing and an encouragement to make an order. :what: What?????????????
I wrote them an email explaining what had happened and I requested a refund so that I could purchase bullets from someone else. They must really be busy because their response to my desire to buy bullets from someone else was "good luck." No apology, nothing at all. No offer to pay me interest for having my money for so long. So, we will see how long it takes for the refund to arrive. Hopefully it won't take several emails and a year and two months.

Not really. My time is too important to me to waste it on a visit.

Their product is okay but they sure had no desire to work with me. I asked them if they would be willing to extend me some credit so that I could pay after the bullets were shipped rather than before. Here is their response

Me

That's fine. But is there a way we can be given some credit so that we aren't living without that money for so long when we make an order? Or maybe do a cod or something?

Jake, I’m sorry, but no there is no way you can be given a credit. We manufacture approximately 7 million bullets a month and we currently have 22 million on order so it would be impossible for us to give everyone who does not get their order complete a credit. Again, if you would like to have us refund your money we will do so, but we do not anticipate having the product until early fall.

I said that I would wait until fall since I had already waited 6 months I figured a couple more wouldn't matter.

Sorry to hear that. Have you had any problems with Montana Gold recently with them filling orders?

Well, I am sure glad we got Brad (MBC) and you (RMR) to order from ... At least THR members/readers will essentially be guaranteed their bullet orders will be delivered VERY timely (days, not weeks/months) ordering from you.

Keep up the great work!

Montana gold was slow during the rush, but I was okay with that since they didn't charge any credit cards until they shipped the order. Rainier demanded payment up front and then never shipped the bullets. That is just poor business. I don't buy a million dollars worth of bullets a year, but rainier really missed out on a huge customer by blowing me off.

Not a surprise really, I feel Ranier Customer Service sucks too. I had ordered some 200gr HPs once. In testing I found that even exceeding max loads with three different powders I could not get them to expand in several different types of media. They advertised these as quick expanding. When I emailed them, three times, they didnt even respond. Nothing. I will never purchase another bullet from them.

bbb.org shows they have a B- rating. You have the opportunity to make it lower. Use the chance and help keep others from falling into the pit. I don't care how busy things are, they treated you like crap.

We will see how they handle my refund first.

Just remember, this bullet and primer famine was ALL Obama's fault!! Not Bush's fault, but Obama's fault!!! Than God he pretty much pissed away all his credibility on healthcare first, because I doubt he has the support left to grab or ban any guns.

Yes, but wow did he STIMULATE the gun/shooting/reloading industry like never before!!! I see this as a HUGE positive for supporting families in these industries and additional contributions that were made to the NRA roundup program to help with gun advocacy lobbying efforts/bills/programs.

longdayjake, glad you got the refund. I do hope you order more from them in the future since I do like their bullets for accuracy and consistency with quality copper plating. And of course, I will get the Montana Gold FMJ from you now on since you sell them at same/lower price. :D

Three words...Small claims court.

Three more words...Better Business Bureau

Ummm, why?

It looks to me like they =offered= to refund his money, but he didn't want it.

What else would you expect to get out of "small claims court".

(actually, all you get out of "small claims court" is a piece of paper saying "I win". They have no authority to actually collect anything)

Mr. mgkdrgn,

longdayjake got jerked around...period. He wanted to buy 60,000 BULLETS from these people and they gave him the run around. Just think of what they would do to somebody buying 500 or 1000. I am glad he got his refund, but he still shouldn't have to walk through 9 miles of feces and red tape to get it.

In Texas after 10 days you can abstract the judgement in the county where the defendant resides, then if the defendant tries to buy anything of value (vehicle, real estate, etc) they have to pay off the judgement to the plaintiff before getting a loan. There are other ways to get your judgement, but that is the most common.

More and more folks check the BBB nowadays before they do any kind of business with anybody. Nobody wants to get messed over and it helps to weed out the swindlers and the jacklegs.

I mentioned small claims and BBB before longdayjake updated us that he got his refund.

You can't order small quantities of bullets from Rainier Ballistics directly - You have to order 35,000+.

MINIMUM ORDER REQUIREMENT
Rainier Ballistics has a minimum order requirement of 35,000 bullets to deal direct with the factory. If this requirement is too large, please contact one of our many national or international distributors

If you want smaller orders, get the Rainier plated bullets from longdayjake as he'll get them to you fast with free shipping! Also, if you want jacketed bullets too in the same order, he carries Montana Gold (brass jacketed) bullets. I have used both bullets for 15+ years of match shooting/practice and found them to be very accurate and consistent (less than 1 grain variance bullet-to-bullet).

I was using that as an example of how poor customer service to someone buying 60,000 bullets would be increased dramatically if a business used the same procedures with someone buying 500 or 1000. I did not say that you could order small quantities from Rainier Ballistics directly, I know that you have to go through one of their dealers for that.

I apologize for any confusion.

That indeed was poor customer service. Glad he got the refund.

They do make great bullets, hope their customer service improves.

Not any more. The new order form they sent me says that orders are to be at 100,000 or more. They make a fair product, but how can I pay for something up front when I don't know when I am going to get it? 100,000 bullets can cost anywhere from $7000 to $9000. Would you pay that much for something that you may not get for a year or more?

:eek::eek::what:

No, I would not.
