I believe it. I wonder, if one could enlarge the primer pocket to take a large rifle or large pistol primer? The perfect balance between vaporizing sparrows and minimal damage on mice and fleas could/might/perhaps/possibly/maybe be found. ?
One certainly could but i think i would try a SRM primer first. Though you dont have any... And i sent my few empty hornet cases off to another member become 25-20 rounds iirc. Or i would offer to send you some magnum primed cases.

You might be able to use a LR/P primer pocket scraper to try the larger primers though.

I just need to get off my stay-at-home butt, take a drive to the Spokane Metropolis (wish it was motorcycle weather) and find some small rifle magnum primers. For sure I'll try the SRM first, and actually I don't see myself doing any case mods, it's all coming together.

The one grain of Bullseye seemed to have a pretty good PoP, but considering I'm shooting from inside my patio, through the open back door, and no ear muffs (none of these loads require ear protection) tends to amplify the sound. So it's probably okay. If I were to shoot any .22LR loads from inside the patio aside from the CCI Quiets, I'd put on the muffs, so a "pretty good pop" is well under a .22LR still. Just way loader than primer only, where the hammer falling is about the most noise you hear, and the "plunk" of the pellet hitting the paper pale and cardboard.

So, I could possibly abandon the primer loads. But for sure I'd like to see what a magnum primer does. Part of me suspects that there might not be that big of a difference between the two. We shall see!

Black Harley, with solid aluminum wheels. I think its from the 2000-2005 era. Idk what it is, but its not a touring bike. Lost his left leg below the knee from a motorcycle wreck and subsequent fuel leak.

Haha you would think so! He wears a prosthetic and pants so you usually cant tell. Ive never had a chance to meet him, though ive known him since 2006. He wasnt able to get down to Moab when a bunch of us from the bronco forums had a meet up out there. That was my best chance lol. Washington is a long way from Kansas!

I'm kind of thinking I'm there. The Rabbit Magnum II 25 grain air rifle bullet (it's more of a true bullet than a pellet) over one grain of Unique. The bottom of the black dot, or where the lowest bullet hole is/was/is my POA. Has a pretty good pop to it, (but less than a .22LR) as mentioned, so it's not lacking in power. That's way under minute of grouse. And that sight picture/POA puts my Wolf loads a bit high at 50 yards. I'm not seeing a reason to try to improve on it. And as mentioned, the Rabbit Magnums (!!!!!) are certainly more cost effective than the Speer bullets, even though those go in the same hole. I think I'm good. Icing on the cake: going through the game regulations, they don't specify .22 rimfire on grouse. Just anything "under .24 caliber") so I can try it out the first of September.

The Combination Wolf and Small Game Survival Gun says: Thanks for listening!!!

When I get some magnum primers I'll see what the RWS pellets will do. They did show promise, and a super stealth mouse load would be fun.

This has been a great read. I've wanted a .22 Hornet since I was eight years old. I thought I would finally get one a couple years ago. Then people got stupid and prices went crazy. I've got my eyes open. Watching and waiting.

Glad you guys are having fun and sharing your adventures. Keep up the good work!

Great news! They're certainly way more economical than traditional bullets.

Sounds like a Harley Fat Boy. I had a buddy that rode with an artificial leg in Minnesota.

Motorcycles can be hard on legs. I busted my right leg once just kicking it over. Kicker gears slipped. Motorcycle accident without even leaving the garage.

I like the Uberti "Little Sharps" in .22 Hornet. But it too, is in the stupid-crazy price range, along with everything else. Most people don't like it because it's not really, or does not pretend to be a target rifle, and the varmint shooters can't easily mount a scope on it, and if you did it would look crazy-stupid. But I would love to have one to fill the same role as the NEF grouse-rabbit-squirrel-wolf rifle. As I prefer iron sights, the scope issue is of no never-mind to me.

My lil stevens 22-410 has the perfect set of sights. Small, but precise with a long radius. In my opinion a woods walking rifle does not need a scope. Dont need the magnification and they add weight and catch on vines and whatnot.
