Loading on an XL650, but this question probably applies to any progressive with a case feeder...

The clear tube on my case feeder holds about 24 pieces of 9mm brass. In my mind, the case feeder ought to come ON when the tube gets down to, say, 7 or 8 cases and top itself back up to 24 pieces. Then cut OFF and stay in that condition until the press runs the tube back down to the low limit.

Maybe I'm a tad OCD, but turning ON and grinding away to fill a single case over and over is tiresome. I like a lot more quiet time when I reload.

Is the best way to do this with a light and optical sensor, and a relay, or has this already been tackled by one of our very industrious electrical whiz kids ?

I have thought about by passing the tube switch and using an on off pedal switch.

My Hornady casefeeder works the same way. Sometimes if I find the sound of the motor running at every cycle is bothering me I just reach up and switch it off. I’ll load until the cases in the drop tube are out, then turn it on again and let the tube refill.

Some people have reported placing an appropriately sized pot lid atop the hopper to dampen the sound.
