ProMag Magazine AR-15 223 Remington 10-Round Steel Blue

I'm thinking of buying a couple of these from Midway UK

Are they any good? They're £20 a pop - roughly $30

As far as polymer-type mags go, I'd lean toward TAPCOs new mag. They're about $17-$18 (U.S. dollars.).
I've got some and they work well.

Unfortunately I'm limited to what's in stock - Midway have been out of stock on a lot of items for ages. I'd buy direct from America but so many places either have issues selling this sort of item to Europe or can't because of weird export issues.

So then ...

ProMag Magazines do they have a good / bad / neutral rep?

I have lots of 30 round mags but need something a bit shorter for prone use.

Unfortunately, ProMag does not have a real good reputation. I could sell you some TAPCO mags if I could determine the legality of it, and if the shipping costs did not make it unfeasible.

I've had bad luck with anything not OEM or milspec. YMMV.

I gotta ask: What're you English boys using AR mags for? You guys building single shot rifles on AR lowers or something?

I've done some checking. It seems I cannot even send firearm "parts." I presume this would be considered a "part" and would be prohibited...I guess.

Okay, after more checking it seems that a magazine is a "restricted" item, not a prohibited. It depends on what you are legally allowed to have and own.
Are you legally able to own a 30rd AR15 mag?

jaholder1971 - exactly so. Here's my rifle.

busdriver72 - no limits whatsoever on the capacity of our magazines. I have 30 round mags aplenty. But for lying prone I'm looking for some ten rounders - comp shooting is only ten rounds a pop and the 30's tend to get in the way.

I figured as much.

The bolt handle is interesting. Are you required to have a handle like that or could you simply build a an AR sans gas system and use the charging handle to cycle the bolt?

I've toyed with the idea of building a single shot space gun, which is why I'm asking.

Mine also has the charging handle and you could cycle using just that. You might find it a bit of a struggle if you found a case particularly tight to extract though. Having said that my action has always proved as smooth as silk using Remington cases.
My rifle is ambidextrous - on the opposite side of the bolt I have a charging handle that folds down when not in use and locks into a notch so that it stays in place when using the right handle. Both handles are removeable. the one on the right is held by two cap head screws. The one on the left is held by a pin.

Agree with others on this brand. I left all of mine out in the desert or the trash.

So what is the issue with Pro-mags (I guess it's why they're the only ones not sold out)? Is it something I could address with some judicial file reworking?

Usually it's dimensions are skewed so the mags fit tight in the rifle and won't drop out when you hit the mag release without help.

If the feed lips are misshaped it may not feed or may feed two rounds at a time. Sometimes this can be fixed with judicious tweaking, provided the steel used in the body isn't too soft.

Looks like I may have no choice but to buy one and keep my fingers crossed that it's okay-ish

I tried to buy a ten round Colt item from Numrich Gun Parts today. Whilst I was at it I also ordered a ten round mag for my little Amscor .22 LR AK-alike. Just got an email saying that they'd cancelled my order. Apparently my single shot AR and my little .22 are ASSAULT weapons and the mags are HIGH capacity and therefore restricted.
